Bonnie and Clyde

No, not the bank robbers. There was this couple at mom's place. Clyde has been in the health care center since before mom went in. His wonderful wife, Bonnie, was there every day. She'd often sit with him and help him eat his meals. She's talk to him, keep him company, was always smiling and greeting everyone. Bonnie was just one of the nicest people I've ever met. Today, at mom's they had posted her obit. I am so sad to hear of her passing. I know Clyde will miss her. I now know why one of the sitters was with him on Tuesday rather than Bonnie. And it was so unexpected. Yes, she was old, but she was in such good health and spirits. I know nobody expected her to go before Clyde. So, have you had unexpected bad news like this? Actually, I hope I don't hear any...

That is so sad. Maybe you could talk to him now and again to let him know that you're thinking of him?

Oh, I will, he was always pretty happy fellow. I do like him, but you can't really understand him when he speaks.

You are right. I didn't see him on Thursday after reading the obit. But I will probably see him again next week when I go over. I will stop and at least say hi.

Ahh, I remember some old people when my great Aunt was in a nursing home being difficult to understand but they just appreciated being with someone I think :)

I am so very sorry of her passing. It is so sad. I know htis is so hard, but she is at peace with herself. I am truely sorry. When I started working in a Nursing Home /HCF, I did see this and it's so very hard. I know this is not the words you want to hear, but rememmber you were all there for her. She needed you. And things are for a reason. You all are her angel. :(

Bonnie wasn't in the health care center - she was still living independently. Even when she broke her arm earlier this year she was able to take care of herself. I think that was pretty darn good because when I broke my thumb in ']76 I wasn't able to do much with my hand.... Much less when I had my sholder surgery in '05.

Back in early 1995, I attended church where the pastor was the picture of health. He ran everyday, watched what he ate, went with the school kids on their walk-a-thons, not too old maybe late 40s, you get the idea... then one morning after mass he collapsed with either a massive heart attack or stroke or something. He didn't die, but I don't think he ever fully recovered. (It was just a couple months before I moved out of province, so don't know his outcome.)

Not recently fortunately. I think I would like to not hear any bad news for awhile. I found out my son turned a job down at Walmart. That didnt make me feel too good because he is currently unemployed. I would lke to only hear good news for awhile. I hope Clyde can hang in there. It is hard to lose your life partner especailly when you are elderly.

Yeah, it can be tough when you are all but alone and you suddenly lose the only person that was there for you most of the time. I just feel so bad, the world lost one of its bright spots that day.

Sadly, Clyde will never recover, he's got some age related thingie going on. Its just that the rest of the family doesn't live in town - I hope they get a companion for him tho.

How sad. It shows you that one never knows what's around the corner for anyone. This story teaches us to appreciate what we have NOW, before it's too late. For some reason this posting reminded me of the book and movie the Notebook. It just hits the heart in a place you hope that you don't ever have to feel personally in your own life. My heart goes out to Clyde. :(

Mine too, I know he's going to miss her like air. I think she was a major reason he was still with us, I'm afraid that he will start declining with out her cheerful presence beside him.
