I've noted that after the 100 post appears beside my nick a star with a number inside of it and a specific color.. what does this mean? and how do I get a higher number?
It is your mylot rating. I think it is given after reaching 100 posts and if yu pause your mouse over it it gives you the current rating out of 100.

Good question as I am trying to figure this out also. I had a number 10 yellow start yesterday but now it is red and says 9. I am wondering myself, what this is about.
