Checking in and waiting for boarding takes much time at the airport and then after the flight waiting for baggage takes time too. Traveling by a fast train like the TGV is very quick indeed. It can cut a journey time considerably. Looking out of a train window is pleasant by day. Passengers can sit next to their luggage and there is plenty of legroom. Security is bothersome at airport with the rules on liquids. Going without bottled water is difficult and once through security it is pricey to buy. The view of clouds can be boring, the seat uncomfortable and the legroom allowance poor. Waiting for the baggage can be nerve racking and it must be awful if the airline has lost the luggage. Train is my favorite form of transportation. I have traveled by fast trains in France and Germany and on slower trains elsewhere in Europe. I have traveled in Kenya, in Malaysia, in Australia and in New Zealand by train. I find it comfortable and relaxing, looking out the window by day and sleeping in a comfortable compartment in the night time. I travel by plane if I am going faraway because that is the only practical way to reach a destination like Australia.
