Do You Have The Dedication To...

Some of the stories coming out of the Olympics made an impression on me. If nothing else, the amount of training to which these athletes need to dedicate themselves on a regular basis in order to succeed as they do is inspiring. Are you inspired to dedicate yourself to some activity - such as exercise, a good diet, improving your family life, improving your job, improving your abilities, or something else? What motivates you to keep going through the "darkest hours"? For me, I am working on weight loss. I would like to lose another 30 pounds, after having lost approximate 100 pounds over the course of the past year and a half. What keeps me going (writing down my calories, walking on my treadmill) is seeing the weight that I have written on the calendar, as it slowly trends downward over the course of time - and also when smaller clothes start to fit! (I've gone down from a size 50 in blue jeans to a size 36.) So... What about you?

Yes! In college I competed in running, and recently graduating, my motivation was hard to find. But these olympics have helped to refocus me on that. Watching the long distance races really inspired me, and now I am back to running like I was, 70-80 miles a week, and am looking for a race to run in! These olympics have been great or my personal motivation! I'm glad they have helped you as well.

Wow! Good for you! Walking on my treadmill, I am up to 24 miles a week, so I am very impressed by your 70-80 miles per week. Another big motivation for me to exercise is the increased number of calories that my body is able to eat... and that Michael Phelps exercises so much that he is able to eat 8,000-12,000 calories per day! (I only eat 2,500 per day with my exercise regimen.) Thanks for your reply!
