A airstrike left 76 Afghan civilians dead in the erly hours of Friday morining. So far 50 were children, 19 were women and the rest were men. Again hevy handed tactics to get a few militants have resulted in a mass loss of life, and for every civilian killed it radacalises another, its just a never ending cycle.

That's really sad to hear, that's a lot of innocent civilians being killed for our special interests. I disagree with #1's stance on the issue, I hate when people are so desensitized when it comes to life, I like how you used the fly simile to explain it, I couldn't have said it any better. For one thing, the terrorists aren't going to come into this country like that again because they don't really have an organized military, it's very scattered and if anything we are helping to just make people upset in those countries and join up with radicals. More Americans and other lives are dying over there than they would if they just stayed home, we need to focus on security in our own borders, we don't need to do that by leaving them and antagonizing other countries, we are just being the bullies. Yes, 9-11 was horrible, but we used it as more of an excuse to go to those countries, our leaders have just been dying to get back on middle eastern soil, though they aren't dying, innocent civilians are. It's a touchy subject when you play around with politics, but I know that life is more important than she said he said crap that comes out of politicians mouths. How is killing and aggression setting an example to the world, what happened to diplomacy and good unbloodied compromising? Let middle eastern countries deal with their extremists and their civil wars, we should be acting more civilized and not jumping into this stuff. We could have done other things to end this conflict years ago, but we are now stuck in a sticky middle eastern bug trap that is draining our economy and making lives on both ends suffer more. I support our troops, but I do not support out hot-headed politicians that put them through those things, and neither do a great majority of the troops!

Of course this is terrible yet nobody seemed to mind when Clinton bombed a pharmacy in Iraq killing many innocents claiming that it was a chemical weapons factory. Now obviously since the democrats have insisted there are no WMDs in Iraq it's impossible that Clinton could have been correct. Not that it matters. It was one of many military actions taken by Clinton that was largely ignored by the media.

Hearing this report was devastating to me on more than one level. Those who know me fairly well know I have two nephews in Afghanistan right now and I pray they weren't involved in this strike. NOT because I think they are whoever did do it are "cold-blooded killers" because I know Brian and Ronnie aren't any such thing and I certainly don't think any of our troops are but because of how difficult I know this must be on them regardless and if they had a part in it they must be devastated. Again, NOT because it isn't their job to root out these militant terrorists because it is and they know it and believe in it. You're right, union6, it is a never ending cycle of getting a few terrorists and "creating" many more and I wish there were a better answer. Whatever the case, the troops doing the "dirty work" are only taking orders. I certainly hope those in command are trying to do everything possible to avoid this kind of civilian casualties. Annie
