Not only do I shop at the dollar stores I also am an asst manager at one. I work for Dollar General here in Virginia. I buy all kinds of things from the store I work at. Once a week I get my can goods from there and my cleaning supplies as well . There line of cloths is Bobby brooks and I love them . I always get great sales from there .. the only down fall is we don't get a a discount from working there .. it would be nice but we don't. What kind of things do you buy from dollar stores and which ones do you shop at ?

I mainly buy toys for my grand kids - a buck and they just play the living daylights out of it! Many times the dollar toys are played with longer or more often than the more expensive ones! I just got both my girls pricness stuff - necklaces, earings, brackelts etc all in a package - a buck. Also a furry capelet, and a princess wand. This i s the first toy they run to when they come to my house and they literally "wear it" all day long! Whether they are actually playing princess or not, they just love wearing it! ANd there sits the My Littles PEt SHop stash...forgotten! I also always check every single isle everytime I go in - never know what they might have this week! They have been increasing their scrapbook section - and that stuff can get rather pricey in stores - but a buck at Dollar Tree and name brands and all! I love their box cereals - Malt-o-Meal brand - better than the name brands! Hair stuff, school stuff they just have such a variety and all for a buck. Hope mine doesn't raise the prices any! If you are a Asst Maanger - how much of your pay check gets spent before you leave the store!?!?!?!?! LOL!!! my daughter was looking for a second part time job and I mentioned to her Dollar Tree was hiring and that is what she said - "my pay check would be spent before I got out the door!".

It probably would be a "fun" job - just seeing all the new things that come in and setting some aside for yourself!!!! But I guess so what if you do spend your paycheck - you'd spend it elsewhere anyway! Have fun!

I love Dollar General and drive 25 miles to go to one.....I love their glitter pens by starlitz....I use them for making my cards. I also love the Bobby Brooks clothes and last year found the best pair of sweats I have ever worn! Thier supplements are less expensive like I use fish oil or flax oil and it's by far cheaper and when I was looking for a round plastic table cloth last year.....yup....got it at Dollar General. We have a Dollar tree here and I buy my napkins...and other paper goods as well as scrapping and craft supplies for my granddaughter. I love dollar stores!

I buy mainly groceries, but sometimes things like socks or small gifts. I'll get holiday candy there, like for Halloween or Christmas. I go to Family Dollar, Dollar General and another one I can't remember the name of... haven't been to any of them in awhile, so it's about time for it!

When I am in a dollar store I am in a state of glory. Much of my craft supplies I buy, food, coffee, extention cords, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, Cheetos, underwear and socks...my list could extend up and down every aisle. Usually, I just go in, grab a basket, and let my pocketbook be my guide.

cool. i love the dollar store and the 99cent store. i've shopped them for years. its surprising how you can sometimes find brand names at such a low price. makes me wonder how and why they offer it so much cheaper than other stores.

One of the dollar stores here does not have that much of a big selection of anything. But when I go, I always buy several bags of candy. lol. I have this decorated cross with a scripture on it that sits on my table--it's really beautiful. I also buy those plastic and glass things--I don't know what they're called--and I've filled some with potpourri and some with seashells that I also got from the dollar store. And also, I've bought those toothbrushes there's like 5 for a dollar, and candles too.

I do buy things in my local dollar store, but sometimes I wonder if I'm getting the best deal. I sometimes see things in Walmart and Target where the prices are actually lower than the dollar store, but my dollar store is so close to me that I will often go there to pick up wrapping paper, gift bags and greeting cards. I did order balloons from the dollar store and they were quite a bit less than the party store and they did just as good a job.

This is definitely true! Most things at the dollar store are the best deals, but not everything! You really have to know your stuff and the pricing of different stores. I've even found that there are some things that one dollar store will have for $1 each, another dollar store will have them 2/$1. But if the dollar store is closest to you there is probably so little difference in some things that it's not worth a trip further to save so little. I have a Walmart closer to me than any of the good dollar stores, so if I only needed a couple of things and Walmart's only like a quarter more there is no point in me going to the dollar store for it.

I'm actually going to keep better track to ensure I get a better deal when I do go to the 99 cent store and do not pay more for an item than I would at the grocery store or Target. I try to only buy things at the 99 cent store if it would cost me more anywhere else I go - or it's something I like that I can't find anywhere else.

you really have to know your prices no doubt .. I find can goods are good prices .. cleaning products .. but as long as you know your prices you know where to get the better deal

I also buy my shampoo there and my shaving cream. I love dollar stores and I buy as much as possible there since they are way cheaper then other places. I even buy food their occasionally.

Here in Canada our good dollar stores are Dollar Giant and Dollarama. We go to both of them a LOT. We buy all sorts of things from there; garbage bags, sandwich bags, kitchen utensils(I get the BEST "spoonula's" from there), storage items(like baskets), hangers, dish cloths, kitchen towels, stationary, gift wrap and bags, cards, socks, craft stuff, seasonal decorations, and definitely so much more. They are truly a money saver! Just one example, I got a booklight from there that I have seen at other places for anywhere from $5 to $15, the exact same light, and I only paid a buck, got a backup one too. We spent some time in the US and we shopped at the 99 Cent Store and Dollar Tree while we were there. There is some things different that the dollar stores there had that we don't have in our dollar stores here and vice versa. I didn't shop at Dollar General a whole lot because not everything was $1 and under there, I like the stores where nothing is over a dollar. I did shop at Dollar General a bit in AZ when we were there though because there wasn't an under a dollar kind of dollar store near where we were.

Yep, didn't say they did claim that:). But yes, it is sort of deceiving to see the word "dollar" in the name and it not be an actual dollar store, we have lots of stores up here that are like that too, fortunately though I know which ones are the real dollar stores. Sadly most of them are a rip-off, they make you think you're getting deal but you really aren't, I've gone into some of them and seen things priced for $4 in their "dollar" store that I get for $1 in the real dollar stores. Dollar General wasn't too bad though, we bought stuff from there to supply an apartment that we were only staying in for a couple of months, the quality wasn't good on most of the stuff we got, but it served our purpose perfectly, we only needed it to last a couple of months and we didn't want to spend much and that's exactly what we got!

I go to the 99 ceents only store. Lately though, prices have increased a bit. It's still a lot cheaper than the regular store though. I buy fresh fruits and vegetables, canned goods, some frozen veggies, individual pizzas, pot pies, frozen fish filets, and a lot of paper goods. Every week there is a new item for that week. Sometimes it's 2 liter sodas which are sold 2 for 99 cents, sometimes is other discounted items. I also buy bread and bagels. I stocked up on a lot of items today for $89.00 so I pretty much have a lot of extras and meals to make for a small amount of money. These days, it really helps out to be able to get extras at rock bottom prices.

Is buying food from dollar stores safe? About a year or so we had some news story here about telling us basically not to buy anything that we would put into our bodies....food..toothpaste..etc. If I am wrong, let me know.

Water Spray bottles, Hair ties, Shower curtains, glasses and mugs, floatie toys, scrapbooking material, dog chewies, gift wrap, chili powder, phone line, cd cases, candy, some toys, paper towel. It really depends all on my mood and what I'm inclined to buy as i wander through and the prices. I LOVE dollarama. They have awesome prices on things like dove shampoo and soaps and stuff as well as colouring books and crayons and dog toys.

I was just at Dollar General today. I was really just killing some time before an appointment. I got some of those green bags for veggies, and a little musical saxephone for my daughter's boyfriend's little girl. I usually stop in at the 99cent store once a week just to see what is new. While I am there, I will pick up tooth paste, shampoo, dish soap, and what ever else may catch my eye. Oh yeah, I have to pick up some kind of little toy to put in the toy box.*L*

The one I went to was really kind of nice. It was big, not overly crowded, but had a lot of stuff, and some pretty good prices compared to the grocery stores. I was really kind of surprised to see brand name foods there, and there was a good variety of food items there, as well.

I shop at Dollarama, and the rule for me is pretty much everything is ok unless I put it in my mouth. There have been too many stories of counterfeit goods, and expired stuff ending up in dollar stores, I wouldn't risk it. There's really no clothes at the dollar stores here in Ontario, maybe a few socks, but that's about it.

as long as you check the dates on the foods they are ok .. let me explain about the expired dates .. some employes are either too lazy to roatte the food when the trucks come in .. putting the new things in the back and bringing the older forward .. thats why there was a conflict on the food .. I personally am always checking the dates on the food we carry and if its old or getting ready to expire I pull it from the shelf and destory it .. did you know 99% of the foods with a name u never heard of are made by the major compinies such as hunts etc .. something for you to think about :)

I don't shop at Dollar General or Family Dollar much. I do a lot of shopping at Dollar Tree where everything is a dollar. I buy a good bit of my teaching supplies there as they've started stocking a bunch of teaching stuff. I have a lot of projects to do with children and I don't want to break the bank if I can help it. Sometimes I will buy some food products there but more often than not, it's usually bagged products or some canned goods. I also like checking out there craft products. Sometimes they have wooden unfinished boxes that we can turn into pretty craft projects. Sometimes they have other nice crafts too that we can turn into something nice if we look hard enough. We have bought cleaning supplies from the Dollar Tree a few times and they worked fine. We bought a shower spray that we would spray the shower down with every once we each had finished our shower and it kept it clean.

I have never been a big fan of the cleaning products or foods that ours carry, but mostly I like to just go in and see what they have and if there's anything I need.
