D.Gray-Man Anime vs. Manga

Well, I've never read the manga of D.Gray-Man, so I was wondering about how loyal the anime is to the manga. If there's anyone out there who has watched the anime and read the manga... I just kinda want to know whether the anime is really loyal, which is faster, which has a better story flow, etc... Thanks~

Once I wanted to know what happen next, I read a part of the manga(Lenalee's hair gets fire on the sea). Later I found it's similar to the anime and I like the anime better because it's more colourful and vivid than the manga. But now the characters have a little distortion. What a pity!

Oh.. So it is very similar then... Hmm. What do you mean by distortion? Drawing-wise or personality-wise or something? Thanks for responding. ^_^
