...but they don't act like one. I've only been on here a little while, but how many conversations have i seen on mylot where so called "Christians" are verbally abusing another non-Christian and abusing them in the discussion. It's really starting to turn me off Christians, well actually, religious people altogether.

I so agree with you here. I can't believe how many of them claim to have read the bible while others say things like..."I was doing my daily bible reading". It seems that these folk have superior notions about themselves and their faith and maybe even their relationship with their God. I struggle with knowing what to believe and I don't think I have been blessed with "faith" so I search for answers in what others discuss. I'm more inclined to believe in paganism and become a friend to animals and the earth and worship mother nature because that's what makes sense to me. I grew up in a catholic family where the emphasis was on being criticised for my sins and failures and faults and made to suffer guilt and punishment....rather than knowing God's love. The people here who profess to be Christians don't seem to understand the doctrines any more than I do... I find that funny but sad too.

I agree MsTickle, it is pretty sad when Christians don't even understand what Christianity is supposedly about. But i also agree with you about being a friend to animals and the earth. Regardless of what religion it is, it's a great thing to do for our friends. My father's family was Catholic and my mum's family was Seventh Day Adventists, some how i came out of the mix totally confused, and i'm now, at 30 just finding my own kind of mix-match religion from all the religions out there. I guess if you can't find one to suit you, you should make your own! :) Well that's what i'm doing anyway... :)

Growing up in your family must have been confusing indeed. There's lots of intolerance in both. As for having my own religion, as I say, there is lots of guilt I have to contend with. That makes it hard...a good topic this...well done...but there are no bashers or people arguing with you...except for that one at the top that came close...lol.

It all depends on what you call abuse. If they are calling you names like you stupid == (although in the Bible it refers to atheists or those who say in their heart there is no God, as fools) then that is wrong. The trouble is that many non-Christians do not believe anything the Bible says, since they do not want to hear examples and even if someone found the tomb of David in Jerusalem along with the scrolls of the Torah plus the psalms he wrote, they would not believe. Calling people horrible names is not right, and no Christian would do that. Asking why you do not believe, and telling an atheist that the only way he will believe there is a God is if Zeus or Thor came down the street, struck thunderbolts, turned his wife into a snake, or suddenly raised his hands and showered him with gold, is not abuse. It is telling them the truth.

How is it the truth? If even after all that, someone decided they STILL did not believe, isn't that the truth for them? And it is abuse, verbal abuse. You are bullying someone else into believing what you believe, to me that is abuse. It doesn't have to be inflamatory to be abusive. Also, i am not an atheist but i believe in a lot of different things. It's people like you who go around telling everyone "the truth" and saying they will have snakes thrown at them that are perfect examples of what Christianity is NOT about.

I've noticed the same things that you have. I get the feeling sometimes that what Jesus taught was far different than we these modern day Christians are teaching. I feel the Bible has been interpreted in so many different ways, who knows what the origial teachings were any more. Christianity has "morphed" into something else altogether, it just dosn't seem to propagate peace and love for all, only for fellow Christians. If I don't want to be a "Christian" like they are, then I'm damned to hell for eternity. Somehow I doubt Jesus taught these things. He was all about love and tolerance and acceptance, kindness and mercy. He embodied humility and compassion. I just don't see these qualities in alot of Christians I've met. I don't trust any religions, either. Anyway, the truth about God cannot be found in any organized religion. It's found within our hearts, and our sincere desires to find Him, and understand Him.

I agree with you Makena1968, i wonder what happened to the old beliefs of what it was to be a christian. When i was growing up it was the Christians who were setting the examples of what is right in the world, how to act towards other people. Even if they didn't like someone they acted towards them with respect. These days it seems like it's on for one and all. I am not a Christian myself, as i'm not religious but i do like the ideals of being kind to each other, showing respect towards fellow humans, having compassion and humility, and caring about others. I think these attributes shouldn't be only for Christians but for everyone. I hate to see a public forum like this turn into a slinging match by anyone, let alone the people who i thought would be setting a good example. Thankyou so much for your comments. :)

And that's the problem with organized religion as a whole. It doesn't matter which religion it is. Just imagine what a Christian versus Muslim debate must look like or worse yet a Christian versus Wiccan debate. There are a lot of good people in all religions but the most outspoken ones also seem to be the rudest to others. I have been attacked by so called Christians and I've never even declared a religion or religious beliefs openly on this site.

Hi foxyfire33, i agree organised religions seem to always think they are better than other religions, yet in the end, it is probably the same god they are worshipping. It's only the small details that are different. And i hate to see people arguing about religion on here because i don't think either of their gods would want that, do you? I think the main theme of religion is to leave in peace, love each other and lead happy lives, yet they seem to go out of their way to argue about the fine print with other people. My motto is live and let live. I'm not overly religious, i have a few beliefs, mine are all little bits that i thought were good from all religions, and i try to just follow them in peace. :) I think everyone should be able to follow their choice religion, or not follow a religion without coming under scrutiny by someone else. Thanks for your response.

Don't lose heart, snowberries. All Christians aren't that way. But I agree; some Christians don't show much 'Jesus' in their lives and it does turn non-Christians off. Wish it wasn't that way, but they are humans and sometimes act like it.

Yes it's true Barb42 no one is perfect. :) And yes, not everyone is like that, thankfully! I guess it's only a small minority who give the majority on here a bad name. But that is the same with everything i guess, not just religion. Thanks for your response and have a great day.

Yes, some people on here can be very fanatical about religion. I don't mind it as long as they don't try to preach to me too much, and then cut me down when i tell them i am not their religion... :)

I seen it too, but I seen it coming from both sides. I'm not a christian, but I don't think you can judge a whole religion based on what a few people do on here. That would be a very judgemental thing to do and not fair to all the good christians out there who are trying to quietly and peacefully follow their religion. After all, no organization, including religious ones, are perfect.

If you always look on people as representative of one religion, then you will always be dissapointed because you will expect too much on human being who are way from perfect. Finding weaknesses and bad in people is always easy because in nature, we are living in sin. We want to do good but in turn, we are hurting other people's feeling. You said it yourself that many people on mylot who call themselves Christians but they don't act like one, so actually you know that Christians is good, but many people who call themselves one do not do what they are taught to do in Christian. So I am asking you this question: why don't you try to be a Christian who really act like one? You'll find that it is a long journey process and sometimes you'll feel that it's hard to do but worth to try.

I am not a christian, but i do try to act like a nice human being every day asiatic. I know that a minor few are not representative of a whole religion, but it just seems to be that the minor few are the ones who are causing troubles on mylot and arguing with other people. I particularly hate it when they say because someone doesn't follow their religion or agree with them, that the person will burn in hell. It's really abusive don't you think? I have found that yes, just like in everything, there are a few people who spoil it for the majority. Thanks for your response.
