Internet is used to watch your mail, connected to website, this will be the services provided by the telephone provider to you with the help of your computer, ie., this service will be used through your computer..
By giving the above said service, you should have the Ethernet Card, through this Ethernet card (or USB Port) this internet service will be connected to your service..
If you have only a ethernet card provided in your computer, you cannot able to access the internet connections... like that
If you have opted for the internet connections, also without the ethernet (USB Port) you cannot access the websites..
If you have both the Ethernet Card (or USB Port) with the Internet connections, then only you can able to access the internet connections, all the websites..
This route is used in the Brad band internet connections.. If you are going for a dial up connection, in this case, you need not have a Ethernet card providion is must.. (i think), because when i am chaned to my connection to bradband, at that time only i have brought the Ethernet Card...
Have a good day.

Internet, basically, is the worldwide network we are in (online). computers from every corner of the world is connected through this web.
Ethernet, on the otherhand, is basically your local area network (or LAN), which connects your computers at home or at office.

Internet was first used by US Army to connect with each other and send data quickly and securely. The main concept of Internet (formerly known as International Network) is to connect all computers of the world remotely usig the media of either co-axial cables, fibre optic cables or satellite where required. All computers of the world can access the data stored on each site. You can take the example of MyLot. MyLot main server may be somewhere around the world. We members are posting our messages on that single main server by connecting to it (logging in).
Ethernet is the term used in LAN (Local Area Network) and means connecting two or more computers under one specified area. WAN (Wide Area Network) is a combination of two or more LAN's. The cable used to connect computers are called Ethernet cable or co-axial cable which have further many types. Other new way of connecting computers is wireless network cards in which no ethernet cable is used but these internal wireless network cards are called ethernet cards. Same ethernet cards are used in connecting through cables.

Hi jacquelane, the first diffrence i see that internet starts with "In" and ethernet strat from "E" but both are in NET,
second diffrence:
Internet:a network that links computer networks all over the world by satellite and telephone, connecting users with service networks such as e-mail and the World Wide Web
ethernet: a trademark for a system for exchanging messages between computers on a local area network using coaxial, fibre-optic, or twisted-pair cables (with in a particular company)hope i have not confused you .. thanks

Hi Jacquelane,
Let me explain in brief:
Ethernet is a common method of networking in a local area network while internet is a cooperative system linking computer networks worldwide. From the simple definition you can make the different in terms of the scope. Ethernet scope is only limited to certain computers which are installed by the same network setting dedicated to one groups.
