She came into my life on Tues. She blew me hard for 4 days. She soaked me until I was wet all over. She flooded with a ferociousness never seen before. She left me alone in the dark for 14 hours. She left me thoroughly exhausted. Now she is gone for good! Am I sad? HELL NO!.
For those of you with dirty minds.. I am talking about Tropical Storm Fay.
It was THE most miserable storm. It dumped more rain than 2 hurricanes. There are 50 homes in the city where I live that are completely flooded. There is a sinkhole on one of our major roads that leads to all of the restaurants, Home Depot, Lowes.. etc. There are trees and power lines down.
Thank God, I have no real damage worth mentioning. A few branches down, carport tarp torn. But that's it. A power line was down at the end of my street. It went down at 4:30pm on Thurs. There was a transformer that blew elsewhere in or neighborhood. It was dark, so when it blew it was real pretty, like a purplish-green flash of lightning. We didn't get our power back until 6AM yesterday morning. But, I Had my bedroom window open. The (45mph) breeze was wonderful, although I couldn't sleep much, because I was afraid the "breeze" would turn into a tornado.
Today, the b!tch has moved on to torment others in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. My husband, who is working in Louisiana, will have to drive through it this weekend to get home. He's been gone since July 5. I ask you all to keep him in your prayers as he drives home.
I also ask that you all pray for everyone affected by this storm that just won't leave Florida alone. There is widespread flooding (I know you all watch the news).
Do you know anyone (besides me) that was affected by this historical storm? What kind of damage did they have?

I have been trying to keep my eye on this storm but our news channels have not been saying anything about it. I guess with the Olympics taking precedence over everything they do not think about what is happening in other places.
It sounds as though it is a horrible one though with all that rain, I did read online that it keeps coming back and will not move on. I hope that your hubby has an easy journey home and I am glad that you have not had too much damage.

Sometimes things like that do take over news if they do not affect your immediate area. Weather.com http://www.weather.com/ will have all you need to know.
It has Florida made landfall 4 times now.. in South Florida (Florida Keys) SW Florida (Naples), East Central Florida (where I live) and just this morning in the Panhandle http://www.weather.com/newscenter/hurricanecentral/update/index.html?from=hp_news
The only GOOD news (silver lining and all) is that Fay will help with some of the drought stricken areas here in SE part of the US
Thank you for your prayers for my hubby. I really wish he wouldn't drive.. but he is determined to get home to hi family and I love him for that.

Yes, I definitely know how you feel. Fortunately for me the damage was not directly affecting me but it has been a pain. About a half a mile away there is a neighborhood standing in 3feet of water. I live up in Volusia county. Where are you? We just got tons of rain since we are further inland but the hospital is flooded their are sidewalks collapsed and tons of roads closed. A lot of people around here have lost power but fortunately we never did. It was a ridiculous storm. Not powerful as far as winds but just sat over us and dumped a tremendous amount of rain. I am glad you did not suffer any severe damage because many that I know did. A guy I use to work with just bought a house and water was leaking through the walls. Another one had the whole first floor of their house flooded and yet another had the back porch roof collapse on their new condo. This was all the same family by the way.

WOW I feel for that guy and his family. I am also in Volusia County. Small world huh? I am happy to hear your report of no damage. I feel for the people down in Melbourne, as they got 26 inches of rain I am pleased to look outside this morning to see that the sun remembers where we live. We all have cabin fever and want to get out... but I still think it's not very wise. I want to let the clean up crews safely do their work.

Thank you for your prayers. They are greatly appreciated! You also taught me something new. I LOVE that. I have never heard that word before, but based on what I wrote and what you told me, I was able to determine that uvamai in your language means "simile" in mine.
I love learning new things, thanks again

I'm so glad you didn't have major damage! I was watching the news last night and felt so badly for those people. Thank goodness my Mom who lives in Florida is right here with me--she stays with me during the season after the miserable time she had a few years ago with no power for a week and muggy temps in the 90's.
I've been praying for those people in Florida so some of my prayers must've reached you. I'll include your husband specifically!

Thank you for those prayers.. they did reach me and I deeply appreciate them . I am glad your mom is safe and that she has a place to go faaaaaaar away from here when these horrible storms hit. I don't blame her. It WAS a miserable time in '04 . I am hoping this hurricane season will NOT be a repeat... so far so good... keep praying for us and thank you again.

I don't know anyone besides you that went through this. I am sure it was no fun. I am glad everything is ok for you. I hope your husband makes it home just fine. In fact, I hope he is already there, and you guys can have a good reunion.

That's really good news that you didn't get any major damage to your home. I know of another member here on mylot that was in the path but haven't heard of anything from them. My grandmother owns a home in Naples but she is up here for the summer so she's fine.

He is a Cat 4 right now. With 135mph winds with higher gusts. This from the National Weather Center "As of 11pm today 9/6/08 he is at 21.2 Lat and 70.9 Long near the Turks and Caicos Islands. moving W/SW at 15 MPH this motion is expected to continue Sunday with a gradual turn to the West late Sunday. on this track, the core of the hurricane will begin to affect the southeastern Bahamas early Sunday. Ike should then move near the central Bahamas and the Northern coast of Eastern Cuba Sunday night and early Monday" There's more, but I was copying it from my cell phone.
He is projected to hit somewhere between S Florida and Cuba late Monday/Early Tuesday with the cone of uncertainty coming up the center/west Florida and into the Gulf. Other models have him going South of Cuba
There is a great website you can go to track, to see the different models, and to see how other hurricane on that same path have gone in the past. It is weatherunderground.com
I am glad you are safe
