I do have a pretty large list of sites where freelance writers can publish and/or get paid for their work. It's at
http://www.squidoo.com/writingfulltime
Check under "sites which offer a one time payment for articles" and "sites which let you earn passive income". There's also a site, Storymash, that specialises in works of fiction which I put under "sites which specialise in works of fiction".

OOps, that was supposed to be "sites which specialsie in certain writing categories" not "sites which specialise in works of fiction*

Have you tried Lulu.com? I know a couple of people who have published books there. I am not sure how it works, but it is a place to check out to just see if it is something you want to do.

Valeria,i feel lulu is the best place, although they lost some of my works with them but generally they are good, they will give you a standard copy right with them if you do not have one, they also work together with editors and marketers.Try it!
I guess you can see me now still proposing a company that lost my important materials to other clients!
