Are there any ways to stop menstruation? My friend has an irregular menstruation, she's bleeding for like a week now. So I wondered if there is any ways to stop it, like eating something or what.

I agree with Jonesy123, your friend needs to go see a doctor. It is common for women to have irregular periods when not on birth control. Birth control pills will help regulate and shorten the cycles. She would have to see a doctor to get those pills anyway. It is best for her to get checked out to make sure there isn't some other cause other than her natural cycle.

Well like wat I said for Jonesy, she is still single and does not have her own family. Does birth control pills apply also to her? I dont know if she already go to the doctor. I told her so before, but I dont know if she already did.

Birth control pills can be used for birth control (duh!) or to regulate periods. Her doctor can explain what medication will help her.

Birth control pills will regulate the cycle and reduce the amount of bleeding. There is even one where you only bleed once every three months. Your friend should talk with a doctor about this as there could be something else wrong with her.

You don't need to be married or in a relationship to be on birth control, lol. BTW, periods can last a week as long as it is not heavy bleeding all the way through. Either way, if it bothers her, the doctor is the best way to go. There may even be non-birth control pills that can help her.

How do you mean irregular? Does she get her period every month or every how many months? If her period is irregular, why would she want to stop it? It's our body's way of cleansing, therefor, if her problem is because she has it a week now and she's not losing too much blood, or getting anemic because of it, then dont do anything.. But, I would suggest she go to her OB-GYNE and ask for something that would make her menstruation regular..There are oral pills which can do this but cannot be bought over the counter without a prescription..Besides, the doctor can tell her the reasons for the irregularity..Might be hormonal imbalance or something else..Best if she would have a pap smear done so the doctor will know if there are any problems related to the irregularity.. I was like that too when i was young..I had my periods for 2 weeks, so I went to my doctor and had some work ups..There will be some tests done to discredit any diseases...

Hi I suggest she go and see a homoeopath as we have medicines for SOS situations and all other kinds of general health problems. If she has been bleeding heavily for a week advise her to rest and keeps her fuids and protiens up. Because homoeopathy is an individualised approach I cannot suggest a medicine without knoeing the case - but an good homoeopath can prescribe for a problem like that quickly and you can expect quick results. Good luck. A

I agree about her going to see her GP first. They will probably recommend the contraceptive pill like they did me. It will regulate the flow and give her more regular periods, it should also ease any pains.

Hi Trisha. Birth control pills are a medication to control the body's hormones, so any woman can use them as medication for many different reasons. To stop pregnancy is only one reason. Women's hormones do not always release into the body as they should and sometimes they need to be controlled to prevent other problems such as abnormal periods or heavy bleeding. It makes no difference whether she is married or single, sexually active or not, it is simply a medication. A week long period is not abnormal, but if it is abnormal for her then she needs to be checked out by a doctor to make sure there is no other cause for this. A woman's body changes many times over her lifetime. Some have it very easy and rarely notice the changes. Some are not so lucky and each change is dramatic, frustrating and sometimes painful. Every person is different. I hope your friend finds relief!

well why would you want to stop it? it's not good to interfere with nature in any way. if your friend has been suffering from irregular menstruation, my best bet will be a doctor. there could be a reason why she is bleeding for a week. one reason could be a thickening of the womb lining which in turn could mean something. it might be nothing at all but better safe than sorry right? cheers ;p

I see there is new pill that makes you get only four periods a year. You don't say how old your friend is. Is it possible that she is starting menopause? If she is she should talk to her Doctor. In fact she should talk to her Doctor any way. Bleeding in never a good sign. Good Luck

birth control pills can be taken to regulate her menstruation but she has to consult an ob gyne first for her to know how often or how long will she take he pills and on how will she drink it..usually a birth control pills is taken everyday at the same time..and is taken without skips..so she has to consult first before starting on pills..and taking pills is not only for those who are sexually active or married women..it can help correct hormonal imbalances which causes irregular menstruation and can also help in reducing acne's..^_^

Hi Birth Contrlol Pills can be useful but they should be taken only in doctor's guidance.I think she has hormonal imbalance which needs proper check-up and diagnosis.I know that bleeding for a week nonstop can be mentally and physically exhaustive. Please tell her to consult gynae immediately. She should not try medication on her own.

Please tell your friend to go see an OB-gyne. So she will know what's wrong with her. And she will be given prescriptions to stop it. HUGZ!

If I were you, I would strongly advise her to see her gynecologist or family doctor. This is to determine the real cause of the bleeding whether it's pathologic or not. She may lost a lot of blood and needs to be transfused if you don't instruct her to see her doctor ASAP. It pays to be vigilant of one's health to avoid further complications.

Only her ob/gyn can diagnose the problem. She should make sure nothing serious is going on.
