My mom called me this afternoon on her way home from My great Uncle's 80th birthday party. I asked who what relatives she saw (my dads from a large Italian family theres a lot of people lol). She said she saw my dads cousin Valerie and that she had a double masectomy thursday. Today is Saturday. I wanted to cry when a woman has a baby shes in at least 48 hours. What is wrong with insurance companies and the hospitals that when a woman has her breasts removed shes ready to come home the next day. I know we have made alot of progress with breast disease my grandmother (my moms mother) died in 1959 from breast cancer & she was under 30 I feel compelled to do something about this. Thanks for listening to my vent

that is extermely sad. there are alot of other surgies there doing besides that too that they want you out the same day. i mean some i can understand why they let you out so soon. but a double masectomy! comeone let her stay longer and recover. what if someone developes a infection or something from leaving the sterile hospital enviroment to early.

I agree with you. When my mom had my sister back in 1990 she went to the hospital at noon on saturday and was being wheeled out of her room at 10am. I think during Clintons term he had something to do with extending the time for their hospital stay so im going to do some research and she what i can do.

My aunt went through the same thing. She had hers done in the early evening and they shipped her home bright and early the next morning with a fever. Her insurance refused to pay an extra half a day or day for her to be there if she wasn't dying from complications. Its a sad fact of life and even sadder is that none of us working class can afford just to pay for an extra day out of pocket just in case.
