If you're singing early in the morning, you should eat/drink something, just to warm the body.
Also try to warm up with lower notes, so that your voice will be more 'stable' later. Cos when we only warm up with high notes, many times, our vocal range tends be shifted up in an unnatural way. You may try this. But this often happens to me when i don't warm up with lower notes.
If you're just singing casually, maybe you can try using a short song, then sing it at a faster pace. Start with low key, and gradually go up. It can be quite fun.
Besides warming up voice, it's important to train breathing, especially breathing by diaphragm. You can know if someone's not breathing by diaphragm, usually by the rise and fall of his chest & shoulder. It's easier to see if he is standing.
I hope this helps. These are just what i learned before.

i would like to know the answer to that question too.
i know if you join a choir, the standard warm-up would be to play a tune on the piano, and to use your voice to sing it out. they will start with "Ah" sounds. then "Oh" and then "Ee" and what not.
i'm sure there are other ways to warm-up ones voice. i hope other people can shed some light as to how.
for me, i just sing a song to warm up my voice
