I don't see how a walker could be BAD. My son had a walker when he was little and honestly it not only kept him safer around the house (i could keep track of him better)but it also helped him realize how to walk. We would put him in it and have him come to us and not long after that we would take him out and he was walking on his own. So in my opinion walkers are great. I've never heard of them being bad.. Around stairs they are VERY DANGEROUS but thats all i've heard...

well i think they are basically unisex. His was shaped like a car and had a bunch of toys attached to it.

I don't know if they are bad, but they can be dangerous. For along time you couldn't even buy one.
Personally, I wouldn't get a walker for my child. There is no proof that it does aid in their development. I would rather then strengthen their muscles on their own. My son didn't have a walked and he walked at 9 1/2 months. My friends whose babies had walkers didn't walk until after 1 year of age. I know that isn't define proof and all kids are different, just some food for thought.

When we have our baby, we did not want to use a baby walker. In some countries, it is banned. It has caused a lot of mishaps with babies. Some have fallen, taken a tumble and so on. My aunt has one she wanted to give me, but told her that we would not use it. I believe that baby walkers encourage babies to be lazy with their feet; doesn't really encourage them to walk properly. They just slide around all day. Many people believe that it will encourage babies to walk faster, but that is a myth. My daughter started walking at 1 year without a walker. My cousin's daughter just started walking at 1 year 3 months almost. She used a baby walker for her daughter. For the money to buy a walker, I'd suggest you get some educational toys or books for your niece or nephew. And congrats on becoming an uncle!
