Joint family system consisting of parents, son, daughter-in-law, sister (total 5) is traditionally sound and safer one in India. Oflate, there is some cracks in this system. Some of the family members are responsible for this. Can you tell your views from the standpoint view of one of the member how to imrprove the system and what are the draw backs? If you wear the mantle of daughter-in-law, you can tell your views from her view point. If you are taking side of parents either father or mother, you can tell your views. Joint family system is one of the best system which take care of prestige of family, tradition upkeep, money savings, elder's advice, Children upkeep, respects to each other, safety etc. I can give my views also as and when I receive the replies. This discussion will help the society to improve the joint family system especially when there is no social safeguard for elders in India. This joint family sytem preserves and reserves mostly one wife for one male member which is ensured by cohesion in these days of divorce. Most divorces are due to isolated living of husband and wife and egos of one of them kills the instint of living together in absence of elders.

Hmm.. one of the main reasons for Joint Family systems going out of vogue is the fact that people have so less time for each other. One of the biggest factors for the success of joint families is the time spent together doing activities together and bonding with each other. With the hectic lifestyles of these days, it is becoming very difficult to spend quality time with each other and this results in small small issues becoming big ones and people try to escape it by going away.
As long as people learn to work in teams and learn to be tolerant of each other's differences and preferences, the joint family concept works best and benefits all. But, if this does not exist, it becomes more of a burden for everyone concerned.
Cheers!
