My cell phone bag

Cell phone bag - I didn't do much to make this, the beads are quite small

Well, I have talked about my beaded cell phone carrier I really didn't make it planning on a cell phone carrier, but when I got the iPhone, I really couldn't carry it like I did my other phone, just in my pocket. I picked up this peyote beaded sheet I had been messing with, stitched up the side and bottom. I then peyote beaded a strap for around my neck, it just goes over the head. Here is one side of the bag, I'll post the other 2 pix as I get responces.

Ah HA! so there is an inconvenience to cell phones! I knew they weren't as perfect as everyone says they are! Just kidding with ya - those look beautful. I am not a cell phone person, but can see where that would be a nice carrier. I was into so many crafts years ago, sure miss them. I never got into working wtih beads. Your's look really nice. MAybe you should fine tune it and make some to sell at craft fairs and the like! Never know! THey might make a splash! Keep up the good work!

Other side of the bag - Its about the same on both sides
Honestly, to work with that small a bead, nobody could AFFORD one! If I used larger beads, it would work up quicker and might be a more reasonable price.

It would be more reasonably priced, but the stunning beauty of peyote done in size 11 or 15 beads would be lost!

I never got into beads - one of the few craft mediums I didn't get into! But just a thought - they are so pretty!

Beaded Native American Pipe I Did - image of an Native American Pipe
Holy moly, I didn't know you did the peyote bead stitching work too..I don't do it often for as you know it does take a long time and can drive you dingy...beautiful color combo on the bag. Here's my crowning achievement with the peyote stitch. I had gotten a Native American pipe long time ago...it had rather tacky sueded fringe and crappy beadwork on it, so I stripped it all of and did the peyote stitch the whole stem of the pipe..took a whole month to do.. Here's a picture of it

Yup, that beadwork was a wrap around...no zip up thing...doing the peyote stitch on the handle like that meant adding only one bead at a time all the way around...I look at it now and wonder how the heck I had the patience to do it. As I said it took a full month to do

WOW! Did you work it on the handle, or make it flat and zip it up?

Okay, what is peyote beading? I will be glad to see this picture, and hope you can get them all posted.

the strap of the bag - all in the blue color
Peyote beading is a form of bead weaving that has you go in and out every other bead. You start with both the first and second row of beads on the string and when you start the 3rd row, it defines the 2nd. Here is the strap - it is 6 rows of beads.

Beaddoodler, Prospects of sainthood aside, her secret is she does crafts in her SLEEP. I SWEAR. I mean, she's ALWAYS got a bag of something going, & she hauls it (sometimes THEM) EVERYWHERE. Even church & parties! I call her the Bag Lady. {smirk} Don't hit me Elic! Just pokin' fun! Anyway, I _write_ in MY sleep. Seriously. Just ask her about a certain SF story..../o) Maggiepie

You must have the patience of a saint! If I have a pattern to work I can do peyote all day, but to just make a long flat piece for a strap. . .I might get it done by next year. I get bored and put it aside for something more challenging.

I suppose when you carry it you have to put on your sunglasses so the diamonds on the other side do not dazzle you with their brilliance. Yes you just cannot carry an IPhone in an ordinary canvas or vinyl bag. A leather bag yes, an ordinary bag no. Oh and if one carries it one's pockets, ordinary jeans will not do, it has to be a Paris Original and I do not mean Paris Hilton. Waiting to see the pictures. It looks great!

So i think you are talking about making something to carry your cell phone in right? Well as long as you have something across the top so it will not fall out then thats great.. i lost a cell phone once because it was nothing over the top of the cell phone & it just slipped out of my pocket...

It is open on the top, and I tend to cram reading glasses, pens and anything else that can't go in my pockets in it.

My Lilac peyote tapestry - I took a picture of my lilacs this spring and converted the picture into a peyote pattern. I was going to make it into an amulet bag, but I may use it for a cell phone carrier when I get the back finished.
OH! Beautiful! And I thought my 5"X7" tapestry was big. I made a pattern from a picture I took of my lilacs this spring that I intended to be a coin purse or amulet bag before I got my cell phone. I think when I get the back on it, it will be just the right size to fit my little cheapy Nokia.

That is beautiful. I've just got a thing about things having a purpose, I seldom do things that just hang on a wall.

It sounds like a simple and clever idea. How smart you are. Is there any way you can market them and make some spare cash?

Only if I had more time than I seem to. I've got to say that if I didn't spend so much time on mylot, I'd probably be beading more.

I got it from the roomie who got it from her job, she works for Apple. I also have a hard plastic case around it, but it just doesn't fit in the pockets easily.

Thank you for posting the pix, I saw your post about the bag in another discussion and was curious as a cat about it. Your carrier is beautiful!!! I will try doing one when I have a break from college. I made one last year. It's a jointed teddy bear with a pouch on his back that the phone fits into. The only problem is that you have to adjust for the size of the phone and if you're not careful it ends up being too small. I did win a first prize with it at the county fair last year, and it keeps my other teddy bears company. But doing a beaded one for the fair next year sounds like a good idea! Your talent shines through through the beauty of your bag and the quality of the workmanship.

I did start this discussion because you asked to see a pix. I hoped you would find it. I'm sorry this response is so short, but I am responding from the hospital on my cell phone.

OHG I hope everything is all right with you and yours! I always worry when I hear people are in the hospital!!! Thank you so very very much for starting the discussion. I am going to be charting the design and starting it after Labor day. I have obligations to make a custom dog bed and a dressed teddy bear for an auction for my home owners association--the auction is on Saturday so I need to hustle a little bit (especially since I am also doing college homework too!) My prayers are with you and I am hoping that everything is okay! Toni

Loverbear (et al) Elic is very sick, & will be operated on soon (Wed or Thurs). I won't discuss WHAT's wrong, but it's fixable, & she SHOULD be back in here in a week, maybe less. It's nothing embarrassing, it's just she's sorta private, & I don't want to step on her post.../o) Say a prayer she's up & around soonest!! Maggiepie (Elic's pal)

Hello, sounds interesting. But I don't understand what a peyote is. I'm not really into knitting and stuff. I have a carrier for my cellphone as well it's brown and knitted. I just use it because a friend gave it to e and even if it's not exactly my style I use it anyway. I don't know what to do with it since it's not broken or anything. It would be such a waste to buy a new but nicer carrying case when I have a not-so-ugly one right now.

peyote stitch is a type of bead weaving. It isn't that hard but that small it can be intricate.
