Has anyone gotten their Tonscils taken out as adults?

I was just wondering if it's that bad. I have heard alot of horror stories about it.

I got my tonsils taken out when I was 5, and I barely remember it. My husband had his taken out when he was 24 years old, and he said it was very painful. The worst part was when the nurse told me that my son was done with his operation - do I look that old? LOL!
