holding advanced birthday parties is very common in our office. most of us do not live near with each other. a lot of us go home in the provinces during weekends, and stay in a boarding house or apartment near the office during weekdays (office days). so if the birthday landed on a weekend, the birthday celebrant will hold a party on a weekday so the officemates can attend the party. that way, we can all celebrate and still can go home for the weekend break.
also, there are times that the birthday celebrant or some important guests are not available on the exact birthday even if it falls on a weekday like for example on a Friday, so the celebrant will hold it earlier like Wednesday or Thursday.
so do you hold advanced birthday parties? or late birthday parties? ^__^

ahm, yes sometimes we hold a advanced birthday parties but if the birthday of an officemate will be on Sunday. But due to inflation , LOL, we just agree to exchange greetings now, (sometimes you will see the celebrant, not smiling because obviously, the hasn't prepare anything for their birthday), so it became generic trend to us that if they react that way we have to be silent for a day because there is no celebration expected.

yeah, that's a good indication. keeping silent about it means the celebrant has no money. ^__^;; especially if the celebrant already has a family. well, i guess i'm glad that i'm still single, i still can enjoy my birthday with a celebration.

MOst ple will hold advanced birthday parties rather than late parties, because the anticipation and excitment is there for the birthday person..
But once the person has passed the actual birthday date, they wun have much mood to really celebrate it as it has already pass ^_^ hehe
I dunno about others, but i myself will prefer to have an advanced celebration. but i have not had a birthday party for quite some time, normally its just finding a few of my good frenz out for a good dinner and that's it.. hehe

yeah. its usually advanced than late parties. but sometimes, we still hold late birthday parties for the sake of those close friends or relatives who weren't able to attend the advanced party.

of course the late birthday celebration would be much less grander than the previous celebration. we don't have a lot of money for a lot of parties.

If they cant make it, at most will only have dinner with them as a late consolation birthday celebration.. lol =D But this time round, it will be the ones who cant make it, to pay for everything.. lol =D
And so, sometimes i will prefer ple to be busy and celebrate late for me.. haha

if the budget fits in, why not?? LOL! I don't ususally make a party, specifically , birthday party for myself since I get married, my birthday is a super extra special family day celebration and I love it that way, When it comes to my kids, I make sure they have a simple party..and because they are still young , I hold the celebration on their Natal day.. :)

hi aj! for a small family its not a problem to celebrate birthdays on the exact day since all the family members can be easily assembled. its nice if things are like that.

[i]Hi secretbear,
When I was also working back home, we always do that in the office or at home! My Sister and I are both renting an apartment in the city so when it's our parents' birthday or my sister or if it's mine and it falls on weekdays, we always have the celebration weekend...Same in the office! LOL!

In my office, we know whose birthday falls in which month. So we group the monthly birthdays and celebrate it at one go every month. So, we have a real good party once a month and we usually order lunch, along with the cake, so its fun all the way.

that's very pratical kety. you only spend money and effort once and that already covers for a few birthdays. money and efforts are saved. and you don't have to stay up late for each birthday, only once.

We always celebrate birthdays on the weekend before or after someones birthday if it falls during the week and we are going to be celebrating with family. The kids always get their cake and presents on their actual birthday from me though.

hi lily! thanks for the response. it is indeed convenient to celebrate ahead or later so all the family members can participate.

Mostly it depends on how we are financially, heh. If we have money early but know we won't on the exact date we will indeed hold a celebration early! But if we won't have money til after the birthday then we hold it after.
It just depends on how the schedules and money is.

yeah. it the same for us too. we hold a party if we have the money. we have to admit it but the party will be extra special if we have lots of money.

We don't really have parties over here. We aren't that "wild" usually.
However, we do have mini-dinner celebrations. Just a simple dinner among friends, well usually.
And yes, if possible, we try to hold it before the actual birth date instead of later if we can't get the actual day itself.
I wonder why belated celebrations seem popular in some parts of the world. We rather have them before than after over here.
Cheers!

oh the parties aren't that wild. we just eat a lot and drink a lot, laugh a lot and sing a lot. if you think that's already wild, then wild it is.

Yes.....thursday is my daughter in law's birthday but they will be heading up north for vacation. On Sunday I am joining them.....and I'll bring balloons and cake and her gift.....so if there is a problem on the actual birthday we do have them in advance or shortly there after.

Good morning, dear secretbear. I agree because this way no one will have his or her birthday after the birthday, which makes it sense less. I think that this is a very good compromise. The same case happens to my office as well. Good day, dear friend.

Hello secretbear,
I don't usually have an advanced birthday party unless there is very important event going on the day itself. Few years ago, my colleague suggested that we celebrate birthday once a month - for all colleagues who are going to celebrate their birthday in the same month. We did it few times until we felt like there's no more party mood for us. Just imagine celebrating birthday every month!

hi gr8life! but i think that was a practical thing to do. to celebrate all birthdays in the same month in just one day. that way, money, time and effort will be saved. and then, it will be a good monthly diversion from work.

it is really sensible to merge birthday parties because not only money will be saved but also effort and time on preparing the party. here, merging events and occasions is a common thing. its a practical thing to do especially with the way economics are going now.

My Dad used to work at least 3 hours away, so he stayed in a motel Monday through Friday, so we had birthday parties on the weekend after the birthdate so he could attend. Now my brothers and I are older and my father has passed on. But we still arrange birthdays around things. We had my brother's birthday last Thursday and it was his actual birthday. But we had to have it then because he was going on a fishing/camping trip for the weekend. This was the first time he got a chance to go fishing in a long, long time.
My husband bought cooked chicken and salads. I brought diabetic ice cream and a card.

i work far from home too and i only get to go home every weekend. so we tend to hold birthday parties during weekdays if its a birthday of an officemate. belated happy birthday to your brother!

I don't see anything wrong with having advanced parties especially if I know that I won't be able to celebrate on the actual day. I usually spend my birthday with my family, so I celebrate a few days earlier or later with my friends. I do it all the time actually. And my friends do the same. I wouldn't want to celebrate on my actual birthday if no one's available. Conversely, I'll be too tired to celebrate the entire day as well so it's better to spread out my birthday over the week. A birthday week is definitely better than a birthday day. :)

but a birthday week will surely be a more expensive one than a birthday day. ^__^;; although i want to have that kind of celebration, because i'm sure my friends will be nice to me during those days LOL, i can't afford it.

my mother ran a nursery school for pre-kindergarten aged children, from 1988-2002. When the child would have a birthday during the year, the child would get a cupcake, and a baloon. However, if the child had a birthday during the summer, and it did not fall during the school year, they'd celebrate the child's half birthday. If the child was born on July 30th, they'd celebrate on January 30th. Mind you if the child had a December birthday, for example, that fell over the Christmas holidays, or any other birthday during the year that fell on a weekend or holiday, but during the school year, then they'd just hold it on the last school year before the day.

yes, it happened to me on my 18th birthday where I celebrate my debut 2 days before my real birthday. And also with my eldest daughter, when she turned 1 year old, we celebrated her birthday party 2 days before the actual birthday, then we just eat outside on her real birthday then went to a park.
It happens because we have to be on our town on her real birthday. I think there is nothing wrong with that.

there's really nothing wrong it. we have to consider some situations and circumstances right. last April when i celebrated my birthday, i wanted my officemates to celebrate with so i held my party on a Friday night. my birthday was on Saturday the next day and they would be going home in their far provinces so i decided to hold the party before they go home.

We do that with our grandson. He lives out of town and he comes for the summer to visit with us. He has been having to start school before his birthday so we would have him a party here before he went back home. Last year they changed when school starts so he was here on his birthday which was so nice. This summer school still started after his birthday but we had an early one for him here before he went home.

I am celebrsting two birthdays. One which is the real one and the other one that appearing on my birth certificate. I dont celebrate much on my birthday, just some food and some snacks. This coming birthday of mine I will celebrate it ahead of my birthdate so I can be on leave on my actual bday to enjoy a one day vacation. Go to church and maybe malling and dinner with my family members.

It always depends on the day the birthday falls on for me.
If the day on a Monday or Tuesday, I'll probably celebrate the weekend before, just because it's the weekened and more people are free. If the day falls on a Wednesday or Thursday I'll throw a party the coming weekend. Otherwise, I'll have a party the day of the birthday. :)
