It seems almost a shame that this majestic animal will be hunted in the fall.
I often go out hunting with my spouse but bring the camera (sometimes I carry a rifle or one of the bows), I really don't think that I can bring myself to actually shoot one.
Although, I was raised eating wild meat such as venison, moose, fish etc. and have no problems with ethical hunting - especially when it is for sustenance.
I would like to know from some of you hunters out there have any advise for dealing with the guilt that I know I will feel if I do somehow manage to shoot one? My spouse would sure be happy with you if you could convince me that I'll be okay after.

If I could be sure that the meat would provide sustenance for someone besides myself, because I might never eat it all, I would kill one. Some of the local people who are less fortunate might find it very needful. Unless that criteria was met, I don't think I could do it.

Fortunately, in my case, my family all enjoy it so we would have no problems using it all up. In my area most people enjoy moose meat. I like it ground into hamburger or to have sausages and fast frys. There are so many ways to enjoy it, I really do like it, but even with that, I am still not too sure I could commit the act...oh well I guess I'll just have to leave that for the hunters, for now.

If I was physically able to, I'd love to hunt a Moose. They are so beautiful and, as you say, majestic. One time driving in Western NY a Moose blocked the path of our work van. For ten minutes of honking off and on it wouldn't move. My friend got out of the van and started waving his arms and shouting. The Moose hesitated just a moment and then came running right at him. He only just barely made it behind the van to safety. I switched to the drivers seat, not as easy as it sounds, and he got in on the passenger side and we drove for an hour in silence. Then I smacked him and said, "You could have gotten yourself killed. What was I supposed to do then?" He said something to the affect of, "Get the Moose to help you get me into the van."

Wow, that is quite a story. I have seen cow moose do that when the calves get hit on the highway, they will hang around for hours waiting for their babies. I guess having one run at you must be pretty scary, but not so bad if you have a rifle - that would probably be the only time I would be able to shoot one - that is if I had not other way to get out of the way. Thank you for your response. Take care.

moose is a part of the food chain just like everything else, if you are going to use the meat for a food source then thats great and your not just shooting the animal for the fun of it. just look in the past and into the future; something has to die for something else to continue to grow. we are also part of this chain as humans; were just not as noticeable as the animals because of tha animal rights people. if your doing this for the right reason i say it is fine, your helping out the system.
