I haven't been able to talk with own language (tagalog) for almost 2 years now! I am currently living in Egypt and it's very rare to see Filipino here, the only times I saw them when I'm in shopping mall, but most of the time they with their boss. And I'm not sure if I can talk to them, because I don't want them to get in trouble. I don't know what the policy for filipino working abroad. Do you think I can talk to them without getting them into trouble? Thanks

I grew up in Kuwait and I think the Filipinos were pretty much scared of their boss there and I don't think they would have responded if you tried to talk to them.
But when I was at work, I had many Filipinos as colleagues and they were pretty friendly people. If they were shopping alone at a mall and you tried to talk to them, I'm sure they'll respond and would be thrilled to find another fellow Filipino. But I really doubt they would want to talk when they are with their boss and they might end up in trouble. Some Arabs can be pretty cruel to their workers (especially the Filipinos and asian ones)

This is what concerned me all the time! Every time I see them in the mall their with their employer! I would see them looking at me and smile at me and then they would look back right away! The reason I post this because I want to know what the deal before I start talking to them! Because I don't want them to get into trouble. And haven't seen one alone in the shopping mall. I thank you so much for your nice advises and for making an effort to go through my discussion and respond to them.

Thanks for the BR!
And this is how I personally feel...not sure if the case is the same in Egypt. But I'm sure it is if they react the way you said they did.
Do you think these Filipinos are working as maids? If not there will be a few who do shop without their bosses, don't you think?

Even just saying "Hi!" you would think would be OK? And at least then you will be able to see their reaction. If they are nervous in front of their employer then they will probably just say Hi back to you and keep walking; or maybe say nothing at all? But you never know! They might not be concerned about their employer at all and just start talking to you in Tagalog and before you know it you are having a conversation! Nothing ventured nothing gained I reckon!
