"Thank you for your response" responses

It is not only in the DON'TS section of the myLot guidelines: DON'T "Thank everyone that responds or comments on your discussion. This will not increase your earnings." - it is also somewhat irritating and disrespectful to the people who have taken the time and effort to post a quality response to your discussion.
What do YOU think?

The key sentence in your response is "as long as it is coupled with other reply relevant to the responder's message". In that case you are adding something more to the conversation.

Hello Sweet
I used to respond to every single response to my
discussions but I got a warning telling me not to
and at that time I had a friend that was booted off of here
so I now respond to very few.
But in turn I do try to respond to my friends discussions when I can
so they know I still love them! lol

You are a dear - and you always say things so well! I know there are some days when I just can't seem to put things into words that make any sense and those days my responses are probably shorter. I try to be helpful if I can and understand the other person's thoughts.

Like you said, it is part of the TOS and for good reason. I wish people who want to thank me would just give me a + and post some more interesting discussions. I also get tired of people using myLot, then complaining about the rules and methods. Crimenentaly people, you read how it pays, when it pays, and what a violation is before you joined, quit bellyaching. Quit calling me rude when I say that. Sorry friend, just had to rant about the last two days in my inbox.

That is a perfect illustration. Thank you does not always fit the occasion, and would not be what you said if you were visiting in person.

I'm not saying that I always am able to respond with a lengthly and detailed post, but I do try to keep things going if possible. I think the key word here IS "discussion" - which involves a back and forth conversation.

hi newtondak..
nice topic you've come up with.. u r Its really irritating if your quality posts which u have written with lot of thought in the discussions are replyed by a single "Thank u" .. I mean its beeter if we dont get a reply for the post but just a thanku for the sake of doing it doesnt look good . But looking at the other side of it , it may haooen that sometimes you dont understand that what response shud b given to particular post in our discussion but you also want to appreciate the effort ,the thought , the energy that peron has put into it. By not replying it may feel that u r not even bothered to atleast give a one line reply or an acknowledgement that u have read that post.. So we should b positive and assume that people have intentions that of second case and be happy that they appreciate our efforts rather than being irritated. :)
i'm sayn this coz initially even i found it irritating for few days but now i have started thinking in this way..
By the can u tell me where are these "DONT'S" of mylot given?
neways happy mylotting

It is generally possible to either add something more to the conversation or to ask why the responder thinks a particular way and keep the conversation going. As mentioned by one of the previous responders - the thank you pretty much brings the discussion to an end and doesn't allow for further discussion.

If you truly don't have anything to add to the discussion, I would say don't post anything - especially since "thank you" posts are frowned on by myLot - per their guidelines.
I don't always have anything more to say either, and when that occurs, I tend to kick myself, because if I didn't have anything more to say about the topic, I probably should have found another subject for my discussion.
