Hair Donation

I am letting my hair grow with the plan to cut it off and donate it when it is long enough. There are several organizations that make real hair wigs for people taking cancer treatments. Pantene Beautiful Lengths, Wigs for Kids and Locks of Love are a few that I have heard of. Has anyone out there done this? What organization did you donate to?

I have donated my hair twice to locks of love. It is coming up again soon though. My hair grows really fast, so it is easy for me to continue to donate. I think that they are all really good programs.

That is great that you have been able to donate. How long does it take for your hair to be long enough to donate again?

My daughter has done that twice. I may do that myself when I decide to cut my hair. If they take colored hair, that is. The organization is called "Locks of Love".

My daughter donated once. I didn't know her hair was long enough, but at the beauty shop the lady asked if she wanted to donate the hair. I think I read that some organizations do take colored hair.

That's really admirable. I've been thinking of doing that ever since I found out probably almost a year ago. My hair is not long enough right now though, and when it was longer, it was quite uneven so it wouldn't have been usable, I think. If it grows out nice and even, I will definitely consider giving. I'm told that some organisations do not necessarily use all the hair that is donated and they're not obligated to tell you if your hair was used to make a wig for a cancer patient, which I find is quite unacceptable, so when I do donate, I definitely want to make sure that my donation will be used for the purpose I intended. :)

I read also that not all the donated hair is used for wigs. One site said it may be sold to offset the cost of the wigs.
