I went outside a little bit ago and picked some tomatoes out of the garden for sauce for the lasagna I am making for dinner tonight. I also grabbed some fresh basil, thyme, and oregano. It smells really good. Have you ever made your own sauce for pasta using homegrown ingredients?

yes, i have some vegetables in my garden; i pick up pomodorini, zucchine, salad, but also raspberries, apples, peaches, pears and plums. pasta with pomodorini, oil and basil is the best! there's no compare..things from the garden are totally different from what you buy in supermarkets

I don't eat raw tomatoes, but hey smell so much better than the store bought ones. My 19 month old daughter will eat one out of the garden like an apple.

I have made my own sauce before. But I used it on speghetti. It has been a long while. I never seem to find the time. And before I am in the mood for something again, either my hubby or sis in law beat me to it. This is fine with me. In my opinion, they are the better cooks.

I have a bunch more that I need to pick probably tomorrow. Maybe I will make some sauce to freeze for later.

Sounds delicious! I do make my own sauce for pasta, but don't use my homemade ingredients. My kids don't like chunks of tomatoes, so I have to buy the tomato paste, sauce and puree. I then put them together and spice them up. I love putting fresh basil in my sauce too. Enjoy your dinner.

I have done that before many times. My son hates chunks. My daughter though will eat a tomato like an apple.

I have never made sauce for my pasta...I buy the already made and spice it up to my liking...I have however made homemade salsa from my garden using fresh tomatos, peppers, and cilontro. My hubby and I love making that and our friends always show up with a bag or chips asking us to make it lol. Fresh is so yummy. We have made it from not fresh to though and it was close to being as good.

I have never tried to make fresh salsa before. I have plenty of tomatoes left to pick, so maybe I will try.

Oh Lilybug, You just made me miss my garden so much. I moved to Florida from Idaho about 2 years ago and do not have a place to plant here. I use to love to go out into the garden and pick fresh veggies for dinner. My favorite was to make stir-fry out of everything fresh from the garden and the family just love the difference between store bought and fresh grown ingredients. There is a big difference in how it tastes! I have been thinking about starting a small indoor herb garden but there are so many bugs here I am just not sure I can do it. Well even the thought of it has made me smile. Enjoy your sauce!! The harvest makes all the work well worth it!

I got distracted by a cranky little girl and let it simmer a little too long. It was out of water by the time I remembered it. I think it will still be ok though.
