We all know why Gloria is moving the holidays that fall midweek to Mondays. Longer weekends. But don't you think that the spirit/meaning of the holiday is lost when you don't get to celebrate it on the date itself? Especially for the very important holidays like Independence Day, EDSA1 Anniversary, and Ninoy's Death and any other holiday I have failed to mention. I just don't think it's right, it doesn't feel right. What are your thoughts about this?

as for your first question my answer is a resoundign NO!!!!
i was never happy with gma and i'll never be happy with her ever!!! i'm not the kind of person who would wish ill about another but gma is probably the one person i'd want to see suffer a horrible fate because of all the things she has done to our country.
now for your discussion, i like long weekends. it gives you an extra day of rest and you get to spend more quality time with your loved ones. i don't think the essence of the occassion is lost becuase the celebration is moved to another date.
just my thoughts.

its an advantage. like you said, longer weekend / holidays. there's more time to celebrate and be with your family. but like you, i also feel that the essense and the meaning of the holiday is lost because we couldn't commemorate it on the exact date. it just doesn't feel like an national holiday at all!
and fyi... im not happy with Pres. GMA... at all!

I know everybody loves money and even I, but when it comes to the 200 peso bill I always get angry and I really hate that money..all because gloria is there... so i guess.. yeah... I'm not happy at all.
About the holidays, I have never appreciate those moving dates for longer weekends.. holidays like those you have mention are not meant for us to have a longer vacation or to have a resting day but for me merely is for commemorating the heroism and the patriotic feeling we feel on that day.. and yeah.. moving those dates is a making us forget all about those.

Well why do I always get the impression that when a national day it's supposed to be a holiday. I have experienced that many times that during those times that it was declared holiday on the day itself people would just do their thing and they really do not think that it really matters anyway. For me working on a national day has its advantages. School will be normal and schools should take it as a chance to teach the children what that day is for and inculcate in their heart and minds to commemorate that day instead of remembering it as a holiday only. I think our generation has been used to that when its an anniversary you should spent it as a holiday or a fiesta.
For me its disadvantageous too for businesses to declare a holiday in the middle of the week. It is rather counterproductive since workers will be lethargic that the routine is disrupted by one day holiday then return back to normal operation on another day then a few days after its weekend. Compared to having one long weekend then have a four day straight work would not interfere with their operation thus productivity is not interrupted anymore.
As to being happy with Gloria that is a different story...

"schools should take it as a chance to teach the children what that day is for and inculcate in their heart and minds to commemorate that day instead of remembering it as a holiday only"
definitely agree with this one.. cause what happens now is, after that long weekends when the students get back to there school.. that special day wasn't really being discuss by the teachers..so in the end the students doesn't know a thing about the history.. so we really cant blame the youth of today.

correct!... man has no satisfaction. i also believe that whoever leads the country will never satisfy all of us... after all, you cannot please everybody. but the filipinos are getting tired of the same scenario in all of our leaders. i think that an effective leader should think of what will be more beneficial to the majority. i think that a leader should put the welfare of his/her constituents and subordinates over their personal gain.

yep, i also agree with you lrglara. A leader should be more concerned with the people she/he leads than what the other people say. I think Gloria is doing quite well since she is not that corrupt yet.

I'm not at all happy with these "moving of the holidays" at all. Instead of getting double-pay for the said holiday, we only get an additional 30% for it. Plus it somehow kills the essence of the said holiday since it's being celebrated on a different date. Think of it as your birthday and it was celebrated the day before or the day after.. it just doesn't feel the same now does it?

i am not happy with what she is doing..yes i agree with you..the essence of the celebration is not there anymore because she moved it...maybe that is why she is so unpopular to many of us Filipinos because she is making decisions that is not in favor of us...from the start i never really liked her when she was just a senator.

Well i am quite okay with Gloria being the President... she has done some good things to increase our Peso from the lowest 50 something pesos to the highest yet of 41 pesos. This is good for our economy which affects every last one of us regardless of our status in life.
I do think moving some important Christian holidays isn't that good though. Hello? Christmas moved to some other date? I don't think that's a good thing to do. I think she hasn't considered the Holiday spirit. With regards to this i think she should not be too practical about moving Christmas or even All Soul's day (Nov 2) holidays...

I do enjoy the long weekends, but yes, i think the true meaning of the holiday is lost when we don't get to celebrate it on the date itself. There are times now that i myself gets mixed up with the holidays. How much more with our younger generations.Sometimes it is still nice to celebrate it on the date itself. But then, we won't have longer weekends.....

i do like the thought of having long weekends here but i didn't like the moving of dates of special holidays cause the meaning, importancve and spirit of what that date stands for is lost... people nowadays lost the feeling of how important a holiday is and we often forget their dates because of this date transfers it was such a drag to change the dates so as just to enjoy a long weekend

I think you're right.. I think it's a good thing to do in terms of respect but then.. Do people really care that much? Look at students like me who'd give anything to have a day off. But that's quite off. So.. But I agree with you. :)
