Why Do People Don't Spell Right On The Internet

Ugh, I cannot stand it when people miss spell things on the internet. It makes them look stupid, and it is hard to read and understand what they're saying.
If it wouldn't pass you English class, then why should it be okay on the internet?
Am I the only one here who cannot stand it?!

You have to remember that English is not the primary language for many people who post on the internet so they are more likely to make mistakes. English is not the easiest language to learn to write correctly. So, no, it doesn't bother me...and the mistakes in your post didn't bother me either.

It looks like you're doing pretty well. I have a very good friend who is an American but she doesn't type very well so her emails and chats are full of words that make me go ????? when I first read what she has typed. I can usually figure it out though so it's not a big issue for me.

Yes, I am sure you can't stand it when people misspell things on the internet.
Please do not throw stones, there are many people on here who do not speak or spell English words correctly.
Maybe you should re-read your discussion, and see how perfect it is.
miss spell = misspell
cannot = can not or can't
pass you = pass your
I bringing this to your attention, because you are criticizing other's and you did
what you are complaining about.

I see I left out the 'm in I'm bringing.
See it happens, there are no perfect people.

Hi,
Thank you for the critique. You demonstrated how to correct someone with class.
I appreciate what you said, and I can accept it. I just get annoyed when someone will attack someone else, and they are not exemplifying perfection themselves.
I didn't quite understand your last line, but I am guessing you were referring to a kitty
Thanks again, and have a great day.

Hello sudalunts!
I just wanted to say that 'cannot' is perfectly acceptable. In fact it is the preferred way to spell it.
It would stand to reason that we would write it 'can not', but, for some reason (one that I could never figure out myself) we don't.
The few times that I've seen people write 'can not' is that people are going by the rule for other negative pairings such as 'is not', 'are not', etc....
So, it would seem to make sense to write 'can not' as well, when in fact it is not the correct spelling for this negative form of the phrase.
All my life I could never understand this. I guess it's just one of the many idiosyncrasies of the English language that we just have to accept.

Many people who use English sites don't have English as their first language. I think its better they wrote that way than stay away since its a good thing to get perspectives from a wide range. And whoever is ranting about 'coz,' we use it becoz it saves time and coz we have lots of other things to do.

i am good at spelling, but sometimes i make lame typos when i type fast or i use internet jargon, and prefer to type with all small letters like this.
but i am one of those people who got As in spelling without studying for tests.

I'm the same way you are. I can't stand reading a message and having to reread because the spelling is so bad. If it's an obvious typo I don't mind that so much, but, even then it irritates me. I usually take the time to reread what I've typed and correct all the typos before sending it along.
Another thing I find VERY frustrating is misuse of grammar. It's so sad to see that most people don't know proper grammar. That's what makes appear to be sooooo totally ignorant.
Just as an example your discussion is entitled:
"Why Do People Don't Spell Right On The Internet."
It would have been more correct to write:
"Why Do People Not Spell Right On The Internet?" or
"Why Can't People Not Spell Right On The Internet?"
Another sentence you typed is this one:
"If it wouldn't pass you English class, then why should it be okay on the internet?
The first part of that sentence doesn't make any sense at all.
As I said before, a typo here and there is acceptable because we are human, but, when you're constantly making thses mistakes then you are being careless. The same thing applies with grammar. If a person just took the time to reread what they have typed before they post it.......that would make all the difference in the world.
By the way, I love your username! It is so cute! That's what I should call my furangel!

See what I mean?????
I typed this out without rereading it just to prove a point.
An example of bad grammar that I didn't bother to correct is in this sentence:
"That's what makes appear to be sooooo totally ignorant." That sentence didn't make any sense at all.
Also, an example of bad spelling is in this sentence:
"........but, when you're constantly making thses mistakes............"
I typed in 'thses' instead of 'these'
As I said. Just taking time to reread what we type before we post makes all the difference in the world.

Maybe, the writer will recognize her/his errors, and think twice about criticizing other people. It is not nice, and it certainly is not nice when you are criticizing someone for the same things you are doing.

yup, i have to agree with you there. it annoys me to no end that people dont even seem to try. i know that with some people, english is not their first language, but still...i especially hate it when people say 'coz' or 'cuz' - people, the word is BECAUSE!

Well, English isn't the primary language for a lot of people here. So I think we should give them a chance. :D Especially when they accept their mistakes and admit that they need to improve their English. What gets to me just a bit are people who are quick to criticize yet are nowhere near perfect themselves.

The "cute" spelling sometimes gets on my nerves, but what really irks me is almost everyone, even people who should know better, using the nominative pronoun after a preposition. It's not "for you and I," it's "for you and me."
