do you keep your dog well excersized? or give him something to do like chew on a toy? dogs sometimes dig for a reason either to escape, to make a hole and lay in it to keep cool, or because maybe they can smell something in the soil or burried and want to get at it.

I have a black lab that was digging his way to China. Nothing I did would stop him UNTIL...I got him a younger girlfriend. Friends assured me that I would just have 2 dogs digging their way to China. She is about 10 months younger than he is. Now they act like an old married couple. She has been spayed so NO puppies. But it has stopped almost ALL of his bad habits. Has been well worth the extra food.

Mine digs as well. I've taken to putting boards around area of the other dog's doghouse (its too small for him to get in) and around my front step to prevent mud from getting in my house...otherwise...I find he digs there at night so I've taken to tying him by his own house at night.

It sounds silly, but if you put the dog's poop in the holes it digs it'll stop. They don't dig where their poop is. It worked for my dog.
