Do you still remember your very first date?

I felt alone, like I might as well be by myself. My first homecoming date, ninth grade, Saturday night, October 18, 1980. It was basically a mercy date. A duty date. My family asked me to go out with this girl. She was unattractive. She had no conversation. She was cold. She didn't like me, and she pretty much let me know it. To myself that night, I said, "Never again!" Now there was a girl I DID like, who hated my POD guts, who had decided to go out with the campus footballer. I was miserable that night. I made the best of it, but I said, "Never again!"
