My friend and I were talking recently about how competitive the work place has become. She was overlooked for a position (within the company), for someone who had less education, experience and years with the company. I am sure that we can all agree that the workplace is competitive, however hasn't it always been? Nonetheless, she feels as though it's even more so today. She feels that she needs to play the 'game,' to get where she wants to be in her career, and if that if she doesn't she will be given the boot. I strongly feel that it should not have to take that much out of anyone to keep a job. Why should anyone have to manipulate a person or a situation to be considered an important player in the workplace? I am sure that there are people who do it, however it should not have to be that way. Have you ever had to lie to get a job and then lie to keep it also? Have you ever felt like you were playing some kind of chest game to keep your job or even a relationship?

No, I have never "had to" lie to get or keep a job, nor would I. I've seen what happens to people who lie on their resumes or on job applications. When they're found out, they're fired. And even if it takes a while, lies are usually discovered. But that's not why I don't or wouldn't lie. It's because I was taught that lying is wrong. And that there is no such thing as a "little lie" or a "white lie."

Lying "is" wrong, however there are so many people out there who know that, but still do it. People lie on so many levels; for so many reasons, however they've convinced themselves it's okay when they do. I have never had to lie to get or keep a job, however I know people who have and were never found out. There are so many people out there who's success (as we define it) has been built on a lie or many lies. It's a given that it is wrong, nonetheless, it's also a reality. In the ideal world everyone is honest and everything is fair.: ))
