What Are You Doing for the Glory of God?

Hello everyone, I was just reading something on intouch.org about how we live our lives here. Many people believe that once you give your life to Christ, then everything is fine. You can just sit back and relax. But that is not the case. Once we give our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, then we need to get busy! We need to get busy doing work to bring glory to our heavenly Father. We need to use our skills, abilities and talents and put them to work to bring honor to Him. We all have special skills and talents given to us by God and He expects us to use them. I do a lot of singing...mostly in church. I want to do more. I feel singing is my strongest talent, but I have other abilities I need to be using as well. I want to please the Lord and I know by doing so, I will be blessed beyond measure. We don't have to do things that the "world" thinks is wonderful or glamourous. Sometimes simple things, like helping someone who is sick, visiting nursing homes, helping build houses for the homeless (Habitat for Humanity), giving money to charities that you know are legit, sharing the love of Christ with someone who does not know Him. I want to serve the Lord. I want to sing His praises! I want to make a difference in someone's life. I want to be a friend to someone who really has no friends. I want to do the will of God. Sometimes God asks us to do things that take us out of our "comfort zone". That is something that I personally struggle with. I don't deal well with big change in my life. But sometimes that is what God wants...change. We have to be willing to trust Him whenever He asks us to do something that is not easy. We have to know that He will supply everything we need in order to do the task. Please pray that I will know what God wants me to do...even the things that take me out of my "comfort zone"! God bless!

I am learning Braille and American Sign Language, and want to use it someday to help those who are deafblind, that is, those who are both blind and deaf. It's not easy to learn both at once, but it's well worth it.

Hi nonew3, That's great! I have been interested in learning sign language as well. I have a friend who sometimes signs the song I am singing in church. I would love to be able to sign some of the songs myself. Plus I would love to just be able to communicate with the deaf. God bless you and I know God will use you to help the blind and the deaf!

I am trying to live to the Glory of God every day. I sometimes stumble and fall, but I seek His forgiveness, and get right back up again. I try to live Holy in all manner of conduct. I try to win souls as much as I can. I plant seeds toward the Kingdom of God. I want to win souls. Souls are the Heart of God. He wants everyone where He is. That is why He sent His Son to die!

I spoke some of the same things you said here in Sunday school class this past week. We need to get out of our comfort zone. According to scripture we all, as believers, have the same ministry; the ministry of reconciliation. We may have different talents and calling on our lives but all of them should be toward the same purpose. To reconcile the world back to God. I for one will be praying that we all will be willing to do WHATEVER God has us to do. Take care Pastor G

Amen, double! God does ask us to do things we aren't always comfortable with doing. Moses had a speach impediment(sp) and I know of an evangelist who has cerebral palsy. God uses all of us in so many different ways! God bless you!

Our church tells us that everything we do, even the simple things such as housework are done for the glory of God. I sing for God's glory, and I am writing a novel in which the hero is a Christian with his own struggles and it is a fantasy novel. He is not calling on some idol or consulting with a witch. I also give tithes and offerings. But I cannot do that much and what I do is nothing compared to what God has done for me. We can never give as much as what God has given to me.

I know exactly what you mean and we can pray for each other. I kow that there are times in my life when I get nervous about the changes that I see coming in my life. But I am learning more and more to trust him. He knows better than I do, what is best for me. God has given us all "The Great Commission," That is "To go into all the world and preach the gospel." Our talents are what he gives us to accomplish this. I have a talent for writing, which I use here on Mylot. I always have the talent for counseling others with genuine compassion. I really enjoy being obedient and bringing glory to God and I know that I have many other talents that I have not even realized yet. But like you said, they are all designed to bring glory to God.

Hi Spring!! I think what you have written is the Christian version of the term "productivity" used in multinational companies. Roughly translated, it could mean, "Squeeze as much service as possible out of the individual and give as little to the individual as possible." Now to answer your question: For the glory of God, I think we should all work toward a society where everybody gets enough to eat and enough to wear and nice houses to live in. We also need to do something about the alarming rise of our population, owing to which we suffer from lack, stress, poverty, and all sorts of social ills. We need to learn to tolerate each other's belief patterns. We need to stop using terrible weapons to destroy one another. We need to do something about our environment that is in a poor condition right now. Instead of treating the symptoms of social ills, we need to remove the roots of various social disorders. A formidable task, don't you think so, Spring? Since I can't do anything about the above right now, I am just focusing on myself, trying to make myself a better and more qualified person, so that one day, I might be able to do something. Cheers and happy mylotting

Hi Springlady! I wish to start my response to a certain passage in the Bible located at 1st Corinthians 10:31 which says: Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Of course this is meant for the Christians. Those who accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior and I being one have this Bible passage always in my mind. I supposed you are also a Christian and I am glad you have this goal of giving glory to God. Don't worry too much on some things you fail to do. For as long as you have the desire to change then with the help of God then you can do it. I will pray for you. Well like you, I am also singing in the Church. I sing solo and I also am a Choir member. I am also a Sunday school teacher. I teach in the Ladies adult Sunday School and I also teach in the Children Ministry. I also do take of every opportunity to share the gospel. I assure that all these services are really for the glory of God and not for my glory. I sing not because I want to be admired but I do because I want to share the message of salvation or the biblical message to the congregation and in that way I can praise and glorify His name. And that also applies to my other services to Him. And even any activities not related to church activities I believe can still do glorify God by making sure that I am doing all my activities in accordance with His will and that I am not being a shame to His holy name.

Lately I have been taking on a lot more responsibilities in my church, not really because I wanted to, but people have become ill, been unwilling to continue serving, etc., Last Easter I decided to go to Sunday school because I hadn't been for awhile. When I got there I found out that Sunday school had been cancelled months ago and I didn't even know it! I felt reprimanded by the Lord for my own unfaithfulness to support that program and decided perhaps God wanted me to take on that ministry, so I did. We have never had many kids in our church, but since we started Sunday school again, one of the ladies has started a kids class and is bringing some children with her every week! I am amazed how God nudged me into ministry when I had not thought of doing it on my own. I also sing a special every Sunday morning and last Christmas I organized a live nativity. We live in a very rural area and nothing of that sort had ever been done in the community before. I was so proud of all the people who pitched in. All of these are just small things, but making this post I have realized the Lord is being glorified by every small thing we do. I also try to be kind and considerate of others in my life and show them the love of God. That is the most important ways to bring glory to God.

This is so true of many. We find ourselves resistant to the call. I have recently learned that sometimes what you think is your greatest flaw ends up being your greatest talent! I serve on our church council. I always thought my "just say it style" (being a big mouth-LOL) was detrimental. People don't quite know how to take me. I was misunderstood much of the time and came under fire, if you will. Not comfortable at all!! I refused to serve for almost a year, being so hurt by this. God had a different idea and now that I have calmed and returned to my service, it seems my "just say it style" is now very respected, and sometimes I even get a laugh. You see, while I was gone, nobody else would just say or just ask and a lot of things were left to fester or keep people wondering. So out of the comfort zone and into the work regardless of what people think because God has a plan for me! Thanks for the discussion
