I lost my mobile phone!

August 26, 2008 3:01pm CST
As some of my friends will know i treated myself to a particularly boozy night out on sunday! I got myself dolled up and danced the night away until i was feeling pretty darned happy! The night took a downward turn though when i realised i had lost my mobile phone! I woke up the next morning, with my car several miles away at a friend's house and no way of calling her for a lift to it as all of my numbers were stored on the lost phone! I felt like someone had chopped my arm off! I was so cross with myself for being so careless, it's completely unlike me!! I rung around all the places i had been that night and also rung the police station to see if anyone had handed it in, predictably they hadn't. So now i have to start from scratch getting my friend's numbers again (will be keeping a paper list as well from now on!!) and finding a new phone! It made me wonder though, i would definitely hand a phone in if i found one somewhere, would you? How would you feel if you lost your phone, would it cause you a big problem like me or would it just be a minor inconvenience? xxx

It would only be a minor inconvenience for me, as I hardly ever use it. That and the only numbers in my cell phone record are my wife, my daughter, my best friend and my home. Oh, and the taxi cab number. Not much to lose I'm sorry that you lost yours, looks like it is a major part of your life

There always will be worse things going on in the world. Personal tragedies, like losing your phone just seem to hit harder to a person.

If I lost my cellphone will not be a big problem.. I have all my contacts in backups in several places, over the web, at home, at work, at my note bloc.. if I lose my phone will just be a matter of time to buy another an transfer all my appointments, notes, contacts, emails again to the new cellphone.

My daughter lost her mobile at her Uni Summer Ball in May. She spent most of the evening looking after a friend who was "tired and emotional" before she even got to the Ball and lost her phone whilst finding a cab to take her friend home. Not only did she (daughter) miss most of the ball (courtesy of her friend), but the phone loss really crippled her; and me. It's a contract phone in my name! O2 wouldn't replace the phone, but did send her a new Sim Card; except we can't make that work in any of her old phones. So I am paying £35 a month for a service that we cannot use. Grrrrr. However, she has had to rebuild her address book. For the first time I see a use for Facebook. All her friends are on it and she has asked the to let her have their phone numbers etc so she can load them into the PAYG phone that she has had to resurrect. I have a mobile in my car, built in. But I have that on Pay as you Go. I don't have a phone otherwise. People are incredulous when I can't give them a mobile number. LOL. I'd hand one in if I found one of course. I'd probably look for a "Home" number in the address book and see if I could reach the person that lost it first though. I hope you get yours sorted soon.

Aw you know she's worth it and i'm sure she appreciates it!! Sometimes us daughters are easier loved from a distance, that's what my dad says about me, he likes being able to look forward to seeing me rather than having to look at my ugle mug over the breakfast table!! lol xxx

I've done exactly the same thing as your daughter, am managing to get lots of my numbers back through facebook! I'm with o2 as well, they have replaced my sim card for free so that's ok but the handset wasn't part of the contract so ws my responsibility, not theirs, i'll have to buy a new one, certainly an expense i can live without!! I think people probably rely too heavily on mobile phones nowadays but a lot of my friends don't have landlines so a mobile is the only way i can keep in touch with them! I hope you're daughter got all her numbers back eventually, what a shame that helping a friend out ended up costing her so dearly!xxx

Oh no! That is not good! But at least you had a good night before all that happened. I would be OK if I lost mine, I would be pretty cross about it, but all the numbers I have on mine (not that many!) are written down in a little book I keep at home. It comes from having to go into hospital a couple of times, there is nothing else I keep on my phone so to lose it would just mean the pain of having to find the money to buy a new one.

No use worrying about things we can't change though so am in the process of getting a new one sorted and all my numbers back!! you're sensible, i'll be keeping mine written down somewhere safe now as well as on my phone!! thanks for the response! xxx

Good day... I did once had lost a phone, good thing though I've back up my nos. in my laptop and I just have to download it from there. What really hurts me is I'm going to buy another one and mine was pretty pricey at that time. People don't tend to return things like that. In here, they can resell it for a price so I don't think I'll be seeing my phone very soon. If you've set your picture as your phone's wall paper and a man had accidentally pick up your phone, no doubt he would have return it to you. Good luck in finding your phone.

You're lucky/wise that you back your numbers off, this has turned into a real nightmare! it's sad that people are dishonest and don't hand things in but unfortunately you're right, they'd usually rather sell it and make some cash! I'll get a new one sorted soon enough and am already getting a few numbers back so all's well that ends well and all that! thanks for the response! happy mylotting! xxx

t is a terrible feeling when you lost something that is dear to you. I also had lost my phone many years ago and the feeling of emptiness is just unbearable. The lost of your contact numbers and contact with them for sometime since I wasn;t able to buy a replacement for that for sometime.
27 Aug 08
I know it's awful, there are some people who i have no way of getting their number again as it's the only way i can contact them, hopefully they'll call me before too long as i've managed to keep the same number!! Well i hope you have a replacement now, am just working on getting one myself, wish it wasn't so expensive!! thanks for the response! xxx

ohhh...that is very hassle! I know how it takes to gather all those phone numbers again! I have tried that when I removed the sim card one time and some roommates thought it was a junk and throw it in the trash and never had it back! Anyway, when I will lose my phone, this is a big problem for me because every numbers here are very important, I don't care buying a phone since I will just get the $30 if ever I will lost this one! LOL!

Hi Munchkin, Oh no, obviously no sign of your phone still else you wouldn't be posting this. I did learn my lesson the hard way too, I didn't lose my phone it got dropped into the bath by my toddler son bless, so I have a list of all the moviles in the back of my diary and address book. I also bury my phone in the bottom of my bag when out dancing and drinking the night away so I don't get tempted to text drunk LOL as we have probably also done at times eh! I get a mate to call a cab home. Hope you had a good night though. Huggles. Ellie :D

Good I am really pleased that you had a good night, everything happens for a reason so yes perhaps that is why you lost you phone. I am sorry that you did though. Huggles. Ellie :D
26 Aug 08
Hi Ellie! i definitely need to start writing the numbers down in future! Can't believe i was so careless, it's so unlike me! I was wearing an outfit that required a stupidly small handbag so i couldn't bury it at the bottom, i usually do that too, drunken texts are never a good thing and rarely have a good result, and as you know from my mood on sunday i think it's a pretty good job i didn't get the chance to send any!! lol perhaps it was a blessing in disguise!! I had a good night apart from that though, danced like noone was watching and drank enough to convince myself i looked good doing it!! hehe big love xvx

I'm sorry to hear that, I also have a friend who loss her cellphone and She can't remember how she lost it, that happens all the time, it also happened to me once too. BUt I luckily got my phone back because it was returned to me, I was surprised it was found in the comfort room in a bar. Maybe you should sync your contacts , sms and other files like notes etc , from phone to your pc and vice versa so you have a back up next time, It is so hard to live a life without contacts, hehe. I just got lucky I got my phone back because I got pictures in there(clean pics =o) ) and I never lock my phone so if incase it's missing the founder could answer it and open the phone or respond to text messages to you or something. That's I think how I got my phone back, after 2 days.

Hey munch, sorry about your phone. Glad you got out and had fun, I guess a little too much? Don't be upset, it couldn't have been worse. You know people aren't going to return the phone. It's really rare that you find a nice honest person who won't try to take the sim card or sell the phone or use it (at least you stopped them from doing that). Next time be more careful. I know it's easier to say! If I was still drinking I'm sure I would have lost my cell and god knows what else by now! At least you are ok and you got home in one piece!
27 Aug 08
Hi opal! you're right, it's good that i didn't do anything more stupid or careless, i did have perhaps a little but too much fun! am really cross with myself for being so careless and i definitely won't be doing it again!! thanks for responding hun! xx

You should call your phone and see who answers, if it has a tracking device, and most do just nobody activates it, the phone company can give you a location of where it is. I guess if I lost my phone I'd be "Oh well" one less thing to carry around. Hope you find it though, sounds like your life was in it.

that's too bad, i hope you get a new phone soon. i've lost two phones already. the first one was robbed from me by two thugs armed with knives and the second one i lost when it slipped out of my pocket unknowingly. the first one was really bad. i had to choose between my life and the phone so the choice was easy. lol! the second one bummed me out as it was actually my mom's phone that i lost. after these two mishaps i've been really more careful about how i handle my phone. i alsways make sure that i put it in a secure place like a sealed pocket or in my bag. losing a phone is such a hassle because nowadays everyone contacts you through your phone and more than beign a phone, i think we've gfrown accustomed to always bringing it wherever we go. aside from the fact that it keeps us in touch with family and friends, some of us use our phones in our work or businesses so it really is a pain to lose somethign that plays an important part in our day to day lives.
27 Aug 08
That's terrible, am sorry that happened to you, you had bigger things than your phone to worry about there!! I try to keep mine secure too but obviously i didn't do so well on sunday night! I'll have to be more careful when i get my new one! thanks for the response, happy mylotting xxx

I have lost my phones several times and have always had them returned. I myself have found some cell phones and also have returned them. The second I realize my phone is missing, I call it. Hopefully someone picks up and we can arrange having it returned. If no one picks up, I phone the phone company and put my service on hold and explain that the phone is lost and no calls are to be incoming or outgoing on the phone (this is to protect me from getting charged with long distance charges). If still no one returns my phone, then I guess I'd have to buy a new one but most people look through the phone book to see if there is a "home, Mom or dad" contact to call so they can return it. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Hi! if only everyone was as honest as you! I rung my phone when i realised it was missing and it had been switched off so somebody had obviously picked it up and taken it! I phoned my provider straight away and got the service suspended so at least they can't make any calls and cost me money! I don't think there's any chance of me getting it back, so i'll just have to learn my lesson and be more careful in future! I would hand the phone in or try to return it if i found one, but obviously not everybody would do this or i wouldn't be having this problem now!! thanks for the response! xxx

Oh, that sounds like a horrid experience! It is awful when you lose your phone, and like you realised, people aren't always as honest as we might like and don't hand them in if they find them! I hope you get your phone back soon, i'm gonna have to get a new one, which is a pain but i won't be being as careless with it in future!! xx

No, I don't think I'd have much problem (I think). I have a backup of all my contacts in my PC, and another backup in the Telephone Provider.. This way, all I have to do in case of loss is to restore the backup. ^^ Try doing that with your next telephone.. It's a pretty easy thing to do, but it will save you a lot of time. =)

You have the right idea for sure!i'll definitely be doing that in future, have learnt my lesson the hard way!! thanks for responding! xx
