Whats the best present anyone had ever given you?

August 26, 2008 5:44pm CST
I like to find unusual and unique gifts for people for birthdays, christmas etc I always have my eye out for stuff and often favourite stuff and buy it nearer the time. My friend actually said to me the other day that my xmas present is the only one she actually looks forward to opening (how sweet!!) the thing that surprised me is we hardly spend any money on each other we just always try to find something personal or a jokey gift. She said that she knew i would have put thought into it and thats what always made it a good present no matter what it cost. I was wondering is that the same for you? or do you prefer specific gifts? and also(cos i'm nosey) whats the best present anyone has ever given you?

My oldest daughter always finds me something that I will truly enjoy...even if it's something little. A few years back she gave me this little accent light...it's kind of rustic with a star in the metal and it only uses a christmas tree light bulb....but I love it. She said when she saw it that it reminded her of me and she knew I would love it....and she got it at an after Christmas clearance sale for two bucks! I still love it!

I imagine that it's kind of hard to find presents for me, because I have so few, focused interests. I'd rather just receive money. I don't think it's a surrender to just give someone money, I think it's a nice gesture. I enjoy giving people gifts a lot more. Personal gifts really are the best ever.

I like looking for gifs that I think fit the people I am buying for. As per my favorite gift. I can't say that I have one except the gift of my children that my wife gave me.

hehe it's a tough one, my dad bought me my car for my 21st birthday a couple of years ago so that's pretty tough to beat! But by far the most thoughtful present i have received was from my friends when i was leaving my home town to move up north last year, they arranged a surprise party for me and had made a huge photo album with photos of all the ridiculous stuff we had got up to together, and a few of them had written letters that tucked in little pockets they made inside! They had put so much time and thought into it, it is probably one of the most prescious things i own now, it made me cry when they gave it to me, so that was pretty awesome! xxx

hehe they were both pretty good for different reasons, the car was obviously just mind blowing, but the photo album was just so thoughtful, which i think is worth lots more than money!! I gave one to my friend when she went travelling a few years ago so if she got homesick she could remember us all, i'm sure one day someone'll do you one, you're right it's not the same when you do it for yourself! you need to start dropping a few hints! hehe xxx

aww thats nice so that when she was so far away you were all so close awww so cute. yeh i have done i currently doing one now for a friend who turned 28 tuesday she has pretty much everything i did her a personalised photo frame last year and she loved it so this is along the same lines. It's not that shes difficult to buy for because she would appreciate anything but she has the money to get something when she wants it and often does so that doesn't leave much left. I have dropped hints and got the general response that they wouldn't even know where to start i'm pretty much the only creative ne out of my close friends lol. I'll keep trying though, for valentines day i made ste a mini jigsaw puzzle that when you put it all together had a special message. He surprised me by being intent on putting it together right there and then to read the message. I thought he wouldn't really be bothered just shows often it's not the money spent it's the thought that counts.

Hi mands I love finding unusual presents for friends and family and normally am able to just when I think that nothing is there..I have been given so many pressies througheut the year but the best one that really stands out was from my daughter, it was for my 50th birhtday and being a single I didn't expect anything but she came with my grandson and gave me a box and catd on opening it there was a mini stereo..I jumped for joy as it was something I had wanted but my daughter got even though she has very little money..bless her..that was my best present and means so much to me for many reasons to...blessings littleowl

I totally agree with trying to find something interesting and quirky! It's far too hard for me to pick a best present, because there have been so many special things which connect me immediately to my children and family. Because there are so many of us now in our extended family, we have a rule at Christmas that we're only allowed to spend $10 per person (and which can't be food or drink) - which sounds hard to do, but it's amazing the interesting things people come up with! Also, we wrap them in brown paper with the names put on with cut-out letters - so nobody knows who bought them - and it's absolutely hilarious!
