That reminds me of my very first "piggy bank". My father fashioned it out of coconut shell. He removed the husk and cleaned it until it shone. My parents taught me to drop coins in it until I grew up. When I left home we forgot all about the piggy bank until one day, we found it in an old chest. By that time the Philippines had demonetized many of the coins I dropped in there, and they were no longer of value. But I still cherish the memories of each coin we dropped in there...

While I don't have one my hubby has several. He puts pennies in one, and silver in the other. Every time I come from the store he gets in my wallet and gets out the change. I guess it is something he enjoys, when he gets a wrapper full he rolls it. Once he had $112.00 saved. I'm always going to the bank with wrapped change. I know when I pick up my purse and it weights 20 pounds that he has filled it full of wrapped change to take to the bank. If he enjoys this then it is fine with me, till I have to break a 20 or 100 to pay 2 cents then I get a bit peed.

yes i still have a piggy bank ;)
both my kids have one too. its a good way to teach them about saving for something they want. and when they have enough we go cash it in at a coin star and let them get soemthing.

Yes. but it is not a piggy bank. here in the Philippines, we called it "alkansiya".. this is where we drop our coins.
way back then, when I am still a kid, my parents use to teach us how to save. she always bought us piggy banks.. those little ones, and always told us to save so that we can buy our toys when Christmas comes.. and up to now, I used to save money, not to buy toys, but for the future purposes.

Yes, I had a piggy bank when I was little. I still have it somewhere, but now I use a huge glass jar to collect my change so that I can collect more. :) I cash is out every October or November and use it to help with all the food around Christmas.

I remember as a kid that all the major banks used to hand them out to us when we went to the bank with our parents. They used to be square metallic piggy banks shaped like a bank building, then went to plastic ones shaped like an actual pig; and then disappeared altogether! I don't have one anymore no. But you can buy them back in my home country from many supermarkets and "dollar stores". I think when I get back home I will get one for each of my kids yes. I like the idea of giving them money to put in there for a rainy day!

one day, there was a man carrying a bamboo stick with a bunch of bamboo piggy banks passed by our place. i called me wife and tell about the man and the piggy bank. so she bought three of them, one for her, one for her sister and the other for our daughter. their bamboo piggy banks really helps us in some ways, that we really have nothing left in our pocket. I had one just 3 years ago and its really important to save. Its a good feeling every time you have to open it up if its full already.
Saving is ideal for kids for them to learn early in life.

hello mamz,
hehehehe i have one too! in fact i bought it after giving birth to my son. i intended to save some money for his first birthday. time passed until his birthday came and we weren't able to drop a single coin in it! when my son turned more than a year, he would sometimes play the coins he find on the floor or on the table. my husband was afraid that he might put it in his mouth so he taught him to drop each and every coin he finds! guess what? my husband look for his coins inside his purse and he can't find one. Surprisingly my son came to him and pointed his finger to the piggy bank and when he lifted it, he almost dropped it coz it's too heavy! lol! that's how to teach your son to save, huh! lol!

It started way back on my early days as a kid craving to have so many toy and having a lot of demands on my mom especially to have something new stuff. Then one day she gave me an piggy bank, actually i thought it was a toy as she handed it with me. As days gone by im enjoying saving money on my mini bank and excited at the same time to fill it up. One thing i cant forget is that i broke my piggy bank for the sake of a new model car toy realizing at the end that its not worth for the money i saved for a long time. Then on i value how to save for the things of greater value and worthwhile.
