For babies, I prefer good old fashioned toys like rattles, mirrors, soft books and soft blocks. It is really not necessary, and in fact can be counterproductive, to stimulate a baby with a bunch of toys that light up, sing and talk to them. I have seen some of the vtech toys which 'teach' animal sounds, colors, shapes, numbers and letters to babies. But babies have absolutely No Need to be learning these things. What they need is human interaction, to see faces, hear voices and language, to have books read to them and to have opportunities to reach physical milestones such as sitting up, crawling and walking. They need someone to play peekaboo with them, to hug and cuddle them. These kinds of toys expose them to concepts that are abstract and useless to them, and rob them of time to interact with people. They also inhibit language development because the sounds are not as clear as when a live person speaks to them. Plus they miss out on the body language, facial movements and expressions that accompany language, making it harder for them to decipher what it means. If you have housework to do, try bringing your baby with you into the kitchen. Lock all but one cabinet where you keep things that are safe for him to play with, like mixing bowls or pots. Give him a mixing spoon or spatula and a couple of bowls or pots and talk to him about what you are doing while he plays. To do laundry, sit him on the floor with a towel to play peekaboo while you fold. Give it a try. It's amazing what you can do with a baby around.

From my own experience, I agree with you that old fashioned toys sometimes are better for babies. My daught is 12 months old, we bought a lot of toys for her, both old fashioned toys and fashioned ones. Finally, we found out that she likes the cheaper old ones and put expensive ones far away with her. Oh, the fact is that we guess wrong! Not the more expensive, the better. But this is only one case, maybe other babies don't.

When a look for toys i all way check the age and the the toy. Some toy may have the age or should have the age but may not be for the kid .There are lot of thing when you get a toy for a kid. The capacity of him or her. Interest in the toy . I parent has to know very well the kid to get a toy that will help in mental and help them to think . Be care full with the thing that my fall from that toy and be sure that the paint is not topical. So it a lot of thing when you buy a toy for your kid.
