The mumbai police has put out a new rule "those guilty of playing music in a car will be fined Rs 500 under Section 190 (2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, which deals with violation of standards of road safety, control of noise and air pollution."

Have they gone crazy or what? This is absurd. What is your opinion.

I suppose the police may be right that listening to music is a distraction, but there's no way you're going to be completely free of distractions while driving. Humans aren't machines -- even thinking can distract us from the task at hand. Listening to music can make driving much more enjoyable, especially if one has to wait in traffic or make a long commute. Notwithstanding the distraction effect, I think happy drivers are better drivers and are less likely to get into conflicts with other people on the road. Listening to music while driving definitely shouldn't be compared to driving drunk.

I wouldnt have believed you if it weren't for the midday article link.
This is taking stupidity to another level.
Do these traffic policemen actually drive in mumbai.
Have they not spent hours and hours crawling at a snail's pace even on the eastern/western express highway.
I would go mad if it weren't for the music playing in my car.
This is simply absurd.
I can understand if they fine people playing music too loud but no music is simply too much...........
