Cut it or Keep Long?

I'm afraid I'm really gutless about cutting my own hair. I'm 50, but still have it long. It's shorter than it used to be, because I get my daughter to trim the ends when she visits - but I've never had it layered or so short the back of my neck shows! I like being able to pin it up, or have it in a ponytail - and I think I'd look crap with short hair! I don't have it down to my bum anymore though - just to the middle of the back.

Hi Rosekitty, With long hair at least you have the option of putting it up or leaving it down, once it is cut you can grow it again but you have had long hair for so long you might feel a bit naked with it short at first. My eldest daughter had her hair down to her waist for years and on the first cut got it cut to well below the shoulder so it was still long but not too long and could still put up, she has it slightly layered at the sides and front and has gone to just below shoulders now and it looks really good, but it was a gradual process rather than a drastic change and this is the route I would suggest for you too. Depends how long is long... lol For my part I like women with long hair. I find it sexy.

I have very long hair too Kitty, near waist length, and don't ask how many times I'm tempted to cut it also....in the summer I too wear it back in a ponytail or braid...but then I think...nah..and keep it the way it is, so I haven't cut it.

If you keep it up all the time, you may as well cut it. That's how mine was, I kept it long for my husband and when I was on my own, off it went! You'll also look better with a nice, soft cut, more feminine and you'll feel great. No more drying it, you'll save on shampoo and conditioner and no long hairs down the drain to clog it. You'll love short hair! Or maybe not, but I do!

I love long hair on women Rosie. But I do know from the women that are my friends here that there comes a time when they want to re-style it; and that usually means something shorter. I think that you look beautiful as you are. But I can see you with short hair too. I don't know what the style is called, but more of a bob perhaps? Not an elfin cut, that'd be too short I think. Not much help am I? Still it's the woman on the inside that I love. XX

If I am honest I would keep it long and just keep tying it up I have at times wanted to get mine cut but I know I would regret it So I would go for keep long

maybe a little cutting will do the trick...and of course ask also the expert(hair stylist) if it fits you to have a short hair (such as the shape of your face and everything)..my hair is shoulder length and like to cut it short too much more easy to manage but my daughters dont approve of it since it fits me or it looks good on me if its long or whatever...

I'd personally keep it long. However that's just me as I prefer long hair to short hair. I'm not fond of short hair and will never go back to it. I feel like short hair gets in the way much more than long hair does so I avoid cutting my hair short because of that reason. I may trim it every now and then but I don't do major cuts.

But think of the wintertime! In the winter you've no idea how grateful I am that My hair past my butt, keeps me warm! In the summer it does, indeed suck though. My Mom and I both have very loooong hair, and we usually braid it then put it up under a hat in the summer. Long hair's sometimes bothersome, but it really depends on you and whether you want to keep it. Mind you, sometimes once you cut it, it doesn't want to grow back out again, or nearly as quickly.

its very hard to decide really...well i got a vry long hair and for a change i cut my hair into very short one like a boy cut hair..i dunno what came into me..i was upset and all i do is cut my hair and its very hard to grow it..right now i regret it and i miss my long hair i am just using carrot juice now to grow it..

Personally, I prefer women with long hair to short hair. I just think it looks more feminine. So, in my opinion, keep it long. I also have long hair, not likely as long as your's though. And I like having the option to have it down and flowing and feminine or pull it up into a ponytail for work or if it is terribly hot. But you will do whatever suits you the best.

I think long hair is healthy and sexy so my suggestio is don't cut the hair. If you are planning to cut then you may cut it little and give that to sexy look and make you hair healthy

Why not go midway or shoulder length so that it still looks long but not short LOL

I gotta say that I cut my hair short in the fall and let it grow to the next fall. It isn't REAL long, but long enough by the time its hot it can be put up. Fact is, I even sleep with it up most of the time because I'm a side sleeper. So, I don't know, I know about the heat - we aren't that far from each other - but that's what I do. I used to keep it short all the time, but other than cutting it every month I can't keep it that way - this way its down in my collar when its cold and up off my neck when its hot - and I'm happy I don't have too much weight on my head!

I've been there and done that. LOL I've only had my hair at waist length 2 or 3 times before, but whenever it has gotten past the middle of my back I would be tempted to get it cut. And with it being as long as it is now (waist length) I sometimes get the urge to want to cut it! But my husband had asked me to grow it long after my last hair cut, so I have kept it long despite wanting to chop it off some days. Good thing too, because I actually want to keep it long, even if it can be a pain in the rear at times. I don't know if you decided to keep your hair long or have already cut it, but either way I hope you are satisfied with your decision!

I say go short. :) I'm partial to short hair because I have it. Easy to take care of and everyone seems to like it!

Hi RoseKitty. I bet your hair is longer than mine. Just this summer I have been letting my hair grow as long as it can for as long as possible before it turns all white. I've had my hair up in a ponytail and braided ponytail, too. Then I'll have it down after being braided and it is kinda curly that way. If your hair is really long, have it cut to a more manageable length as just below your shoulders. Or have it trimmed to where it looks healthier.

Well of course it is your decision in the end but i prefer my hair shorter. It is easier to manage. Dont have to worry about it getting into anything or having to use a lot of shampoo. I have neve had my hair down to my butt though. I know that it is hard to decide whether to cut it or not at that point considering my mother had hers vry long like that. She decided to cut it. Now she has let it grow back out again. It is almost to that point but i have heard her say that she is not sure on getting it cut again. She said that she knows that it would make it easier to manage and that it would be cooler, but the kids like it. So she probably wont get it cut.
