Well where I grew up most people had two story houses. That is what I was used to. To me they are very pretty, and have alot of room. They also are more private. But when I moved down south, there were alot more one story homes. my last house was a two story house, but as I get older and my health is getting worse, I do not need a house where you must climb stairs. It is also very hard carring furniture and things up stairs. So it is not practical for me an longer.I now own a one story house, and will not buy another two story house again. Which do you like the best?

yes, to each their own, my health is more important than any stairs, so it is one story for me.

These days, I'd rather have a one-storey house. My knees aren't what they used to be, and I don't think I could be jogging merrily up and down all day. The back of our house is elevated and we have 10 steps to get down into the back garden - even that makes me puff!

i like two story houses and bungalow type houses too. i like it two story houses because it's big and it has more space and economical but big bungalow houses are also good, especially if you have a big space for your house. well, guess, it all depends in the location of the property and the design of the house. but at this age, i think i would prefer getting a two story house.. with plenty of rooms.

you are right, it depends on the lay-out of the house, and amount of land. You can have a spacious one story house as well.

You must be from the northeast LOL, when I moved from the south to hear, I was beginning to wonder if there were any single story houses, let alone single family houses.lol Most of them are, what we in the south referred to as duplexes, up here they are attached. Most of the new homes are also two story. I would love to find a one story home again, just not sure where they are up here lol

We actually have 3 sets of stairs, one down to the basement, one to the upstairs and one up to the attic.

well you are right.I was born in Pennsylvania. And there are a lot of houses that are attached as you said. We did not live in one of those we had 10 acres of land. But we did have 2 storys plus a full basement, so we too had 3 sets of stairs. Our basement had a kitchen, livingroom, bathroom, and bedroom. we lived in it until my fater built our house.Good luck finding that one story, they are few and far between!!

I will say i prefer a two storey house because it's bigger ^_^ And it will be much more organised too ^_^
I will have the 1st storey as the main living room and kitchen plus leisure room for my parents to play mahjong or whatever.. haha =D
While the 2nd storey will be all the rooms for my family members, with a gym room too ^_^ And if possible, i will have a lift or maybe elevator in the house to bring my parents up and down from their rooms to the hall.. hehe

a lot of people like them because of the privacy, but you can also have that with a one story if the lay-out is right.

I like a one story house I do not like walking up and down stairs all day long. I live in a one story house with a full basement. My daughter that lives out of town has a two story house with a basement. When I go to visit my daughter we have to walk the stairs to get to the bedrooms.

I am not really sure. The first place that I lived in when leaving home was one story and I loved it, it was so cosy with everything being on the same floor. Then when I moved again I moved into a one story and again it was cozy.
After that I went into a two storey and now I have a three storey. I find it hard to keep on top of the cleaning with a three storey it is a really big house so it takes some work to keep it tidy. So thinking about all that I am going to actually say that I think I prefer one storey!

Personally right now I love the two storey houses. The house that my fiance and I have we added on this summer when doing renovations and made it into a two storey home. If and when we do have kids there will be lots of bedrooms as well as guest rooms as well. I like the two storey better because of the room. We are making one room into an office another room into a hottub/sauna area as well as one room for a home gym with some equipment that we use on a daily basis.

Well I think it is easier to build up like you did than to build on to a house, then you do not loose the yard. But when you get older and have health problems the stairs get to being a problem.

I do have health problems. I have a bad back and stairs just aren't fun for me. But there is always a way around them.

I grew up living in a two story house, I've been living here all my life. So I get used to it already. I like two story houses, I think they are very spacious and you could put all the stuffs you need, also there are rooms for everything. But what I really dont like are the really big ones. That is where I currently live. It is so big that when you put a wall at the middle there will be two houses good for two families. No kidding! We inherited the house from my grandparents, lots of people used to live here, but they have their own families now, so we my grandparents gave it to us to live in.

I actually prefer houses with three storeys! I think it gives them an extra dimension, and makes them that bit more exciting to live in. And I don't just mean a house with a converted attic, I mean one which was designed to have three storeys. There are some in our town which I would love to live in, but I know there is no way that I would ever be able to afford them!

In my opinion, I would choose to have a two-story house than a bungalow. As I planned and thought before, I want the second floor of the house to be where all bedrooms and wash rooms are. I want to have 2 spare bedrooms for the guests probably. And I want the first floor to have the living room, kitchen, and other rooms therein. That, I hope, would be orderly.

when I had my last 2 story house it was as you said, I had living room, kitchen, dining room, den, wash room, bathroom, master bath on the first floor and 4 bedrooms on the second floor. It was o.k. because my bedroom was downstairs. But I will never buy another two story again, the stairs are out for me.

Mine was a single story house. A few years ago I made construction with a view to have a Pay Guest house. There are 13 rooms in it 3 on top 7 middle and three ground with lobby. All rooms with attached bath rooms. I have been fed up with the paying guest work. I want to sell it out and buy small house where I and my wife can enjoy for the rest of the life as my daughter is studying in university away from home and likely to take up some professional degree away. I would not bee needing a big house like this.

wow, that is a huge house that you have, I bet it is very beautiful.I do not blame you, for wanting a smaller house, that would be alot of work.

I actually prefer one storey houses because as you have said it is more practical. I agree that at least in such a house you wouldn't need to worry about moving furniture upstairs or even falling down from the stairs. Although I would like to have a house with another floor added I think that living in it would be difficult especially if you still have very young children.

Yes, with a 2 story the elderly and disabled have to worry about falling down the stairs, or even being able to get up them at all. And they are dangerous for young children too.

A two storey house is perfect for a family of five and above but i guess i have to opt for the one storey house since it's easier to clean and maintain. I live in a two storey house but our family hardly use the room upstairs because most of our stuffs are placed downstairs.
