One of the day trips we took on our visit with my husbands uncle in California was a drive out to Palm Springs. We first went in the mountains to Idywild (I think that was it) where it was in the mid 80's. Then we drove down to Palm Springs where it was about 110! It was so hot there that it was really hard to breathe when we got out of the car for lunch.
One thing we saw on our way out of Palm Springs was all the Windmills! There were HUNDREDS of them! And they were all going at full speed too! You know they had to be generating a lot of electricity!!!
Do you have windmills around you? There aren't any here that I know of on the east coast.

Hey reinydawn, you were out in my neck of the woods. Did you go shopping in our quaint little village of Idylwild. We usually stop at "Oma's Kitchen" and have a little lunch. We actually live down the mountain right after the forest rangers. Hope you had a wonderful visit. We don't have windmills here but that would be an awesome idea since we have winds that can blow your house down or total a car. We're on car number three. OY! Anyway, hope this whole country shifts into the windmill age.

Oh no!!! I wish I had known that beforehand, we coulda hooked up when we stopped at Idywild!!! I'm going to do a discussion about those stamped penny machines and you can check out my Idywild penny!! That town was very nice! We went to Palm Springs from there. We started out in Hemet where my husbands uncle lives, we were there for a few days.

What you saw was more than likely wind turbines not windmills. Turbines are just towers with blades spiining to generate electricity. Windmills usually have a base of some type like a home or along those lines. We have some fields in Northern Minnesota with a lot of turbines as well.

See, I knew what you were talking about. Okay, friend, of course if you want to put in a road fast you put it across the flattest part of the state, and I agree, we have some flat parts. I honestly have not driven west on 70.I have driven west on other highways. You know, you do get to some flat spots, but also some hills. I like 70 going east.

OK, get all technical on me here :)
It was just cool seeing a whole lot of them like that, I have only ever seen like 10 or so at a time. I wish they could put them up all over the place to generate some great electricity - without the polution!

There are some wind farms in Kansas. Some people would like to put more in, and I am in favor of that. I do not think they are all that ugly, as some people say they are, and they are cleaner than a lot of other methods of generating electricity.

We have the farms as wll in Northern Minnesota.
They then sell the electricity to the companies that supply our electricity.
i think they look awesome to a degree not ugly.

I'm with Grandpa Bob! I thought they were so cool looking! I gotta tell ya though, Kansas is my least favorite state... When you're driving through it, on I-70, it's like way boring. I mean on a 3 day trip from MD to CO, it takes about 5 days to get through Kansas... Sorry, no offense... Of course this was before windmills (about 20 years ago is the last time I drove that trip) so it might be better now!
If there was room to put them around here I'd be all for it, but we a bit too big on developing the land and cramming as many people in as we can...
