Do you prefer to wear skirts or trousers and why?

I prefer to wear skirts and wear them most of the year. I only wear trousers in cold weather to keep warm although I still prefer skirts if I am going out. I find trousers can be uncomfortable sometimes. I like to wear flowing skirts that flow around my body and my legs feel freer. Which do you prefer to wear, skirts or trousers, and why?

Hi LAuren sorry that youre stuck in a skirt-only dress code place. But I feel a bit jealous....I wear trousers all the time but feel guilty about not taking more care of my appearance. I would mind at all if I had to wear skirts to work becasue it would force me to dress more like a girl......I think a lo of people feel the same too....

I feel sorry for lauren as well. I did not know there were still such dress codes around. I like skirts because they feel more comfortable but that is my choice it is not forced on me. I find trousers too hot to wear in summer.

I think there quite a few places like that...a friend works in a hotel and has to wear a smart skirt to work. She's cool about it because she says she looks more professionsl.

I prefer pants. I don't like skirts or dresses 'cause I feel disadvantaged in case I need to fight or run, and in general. Perhaps that's my history that's kinda made this preference for me, like my name suggests I'm a bit paranoid with certain things. I feel more prepared for anything in pants. I always worry about ruining skirts, and I dislike how my family always teases me that I'm "girly" when I wear something other than what I usually wear (which is usually unorthadox enough when I think polka dots and stripes look awesome together).

They trip me up, unless I'm pretty focused I can be clumsy. Skirt+foot=fail lol. I'm not girly or tomboy really, so it annoys me when someone says I'm one or the other. I agree though, surprising people is fun. Though it's pretty much a given with me, because I'm pretty small. I'm five feet tall, and just a hundred pounds (a couple more when I'm muscled). People don't usually think I'd be able to stand a chance against an assailant...but...that's what people get for assuming things.

Interesting. I never thought that skirts would disadvantage you in running. I thought that was all to do with the shoes you wear. I suppose if you wear high heels with skirts and flats with pants then that would make a difference. I don't mind looking "girly" even when I am not as it fools the person who underestimates me. They think you are soft and find out that you are not. If you think something is awesome then it is for you. I do not see why we should follow someone else's rules about what looks right or not. It is what you like and want to wear that is important not what someone else thinks. Besides challenging people is fun.

I wear trousers and occasionally shorts. I have tried wearing a skirt once or twice before but being a man and all I received some pretty strange stares so haven't really felt the need to do so again! lol.

i prefer skirts, though i also wear pants in cold weather. i think it has much more to do with the mental comfort of clothes for me than physical comfort. i feel more feminine in skirts, therefore i carry myself more ladylike. People seem to respond to me better when i'm not trudging around in "boy pants". My mate prefers me in skirts as well (for a variety of reasons), and His reaction to my dress also plays a huge part in the whole psychological comfort thing.

I agree that skirts feel more feminine. I walk differently in skirts regardless of the shoes I am wearing at the time. I feel more ladylike. My partner also prefers me in skirts but he agrees that pants are warmer in winter. Even so I only wear pants around the home now and still wear skirts whenever I go out shopping or out to a party no matter how cold it is.

Thanks for your reply. I agree with you. I think women look better in skirts. I find trousers uncomfortable, especially tight ones like jeans but it can be cold wearing skirts in winter.

I used to never wear jeans. I find it very uncomfortable and constricting. I prefer wearing dresses because it's idiot proof, no more mixing and matching and since I'm always in a hurry for school or back when I was working in a company with no uniform, it's very easy to don. But then, skinny jeans became in around the time that my work takes me to colder climates. Plus, I look really good in them, so I started wearing that. At present, I got pregnant and even before that because of the prenatal vitamins I was taking, I gained a lot of weight. I couldn't fit in any of my jeans anymore, actually in any of my shorts, pants, or trousers, so I'm back in to wearing dresses. :)

Yes I always found jeans uncomfortable. I wore them when it was practical but I prefer dresses or skirts. I still wear stretchy pants in winter when it gets cold but where I live that is only a couple of months of the year and then I am back in skirts again.

I actually hate wearing skirts or sorts because i have really muscular legs and I hate it. Its so out of perportion with the rest of my body. So i usually stick with pants so i dont feel so self concious. but occasionally i'll put on a flowy skirt adn have fun being a princess.

I do not have great legs but I do not care if other people do not like them. I have reached an age now where I do things for my own comfort and no longer care what other people think. If you are concerned about your legs and want to wear a skirt you can wear one below the knee. I have a lovely 3/4 length skirt that I save for special occasions as it is sort of my business skirt so it is for interviews and stuff like that.

I normally prefer skirts, but when I sub for elementary school I like to wear pants, because it is easier to move around.

I can understand wearing pants working in a school they are just more practical. I used to wear pants all the time when I was in my 20's. When I was a child I wore mostly skirts and now as an older person I am back in skirts except when it is cold. The only problem with skirts is the obsession people have that you have to wear high heels with them. I cannot wear high heel at all as they cause me back pain so I wear flat shoes with my skirts and it used to upset my boss who wanted me to wear some heel to meet her idea of what looked right. I could never understand it as I worked in a college where the students all wore jeans and sneakers. Oh well some of the business students wore suits but only some.

Skirts are more comfortable but until I lose the tummy, pants win.

Why should your tummy affect your wearing skirts? I thought it did not matter. I think I look slimmer in a skirt than in trousers as long as the skirt is not gathered to the waist. I like to wear flared skirts that sit neatly around the tummy and flair around the knees, or have a flat panel over the tummy and then gathered a little around the hips.

It's much easier for me to find pants that look good on me than skirts. they seem to hold the tummy in better.

I know this is an old discussion, but it came up at the top of my list so, I decided I was going to answer it anyway.*L* I wear skirts about 90 percent of the time. I like what they are calling gypsy, broom, or tiered skirts. I like the way they flow around my legs when I walk, or when I dance around the house, doing what needs to be done. I can wear them with sandals most of the year, or with boots when it is too cold here to wear sandals. 9 times out of 10, I am running around barefoot though. I am very bohemian at heart.

I always welcome new responses. I love those types of skirts as well. The tiered ones are lovely with lots of material to flow and swirl. In summer it gets too hot to wear skirts with lots of material so I change to sarongs. I wear sandals most of the year as it is hot here most of the year. It get cold briefly for about 2 months and then warms up again fast.

They sound lovely. I made the mistake of buying a full circle skirt once. It is lovely but way too much material and it needs ironing. So now I still with simple thin cotton.

Yeah, Texas gets pretty hot, too. Most of my tiered skirts aren't really. They just look that way, so there's not as much fabric there as it looks like. All of mine are thin cotton, so they are pretty cool in the summer.

When I go out, I personally like pants. I will have to admit that I have been known to wear shorts but no one has seen me in a skirt. Well maybe my sister did when I we were little kids playing dress up. In women, I prefer a skirt or dress. It just looks so much more feminine.

Thanks for your comment. I think that skirts looks more feminine but everyone is different and I know that lots of girls find pants comfortable. I personally prefer the freedom of movement that skirts give me. I find jeans too tight to be comfortable and I think baggy pants look so boyish. I used to wear them at work and I never thought they looked attractive. I love peasant skirts and blouses, tiered skirts, and long flowing ones.

I hate wearing skirts - i'm not allowed to wear trousers at the office and I feel exposed and vulnerable with my legs showing. MOst of the girls feel the same way too.

That is a shame. I don't think anyone should be forced to dress in a way they do not like. Even if a company has uniforms there should be a choice of skirts or trousers.

Hmmmm not many guys do, although I have see a few who do quite nicely. Their biggest problem is not their legs but their shoulders. Men and women have very different shoulders.

Most of the time, I wear skirts or dresses. It's more cooling that way because my country is very hot. There are days I feel like wearing jeans as jeans allow me to walk freely without fear of exposing myself.

Thanks for your comment. I also think skirts and dresses are cooler in the heat. I used to wear jeans when I was younger but now I find them too restricting.

Hello Sharra, when I'm exercising or working in the yard I'm either wearing jeans or shorts but the rest of the time I'm wearing a dress or skirt. I feel more comfortable wearing skirts and my legs feel a lot less constricted. I also think I look a lot better in a skirt then pants and add a touch of class to my outfit! Hugs, Tianna

I can understand wearing pants when exercising. I wear a skirt even when working in the yard in summer but I am not well and do not work in the yard very often any more. I find that skirts are less restrictive and in the hot weather I actually find them more comfortable. I also think that I look better in skirts than pants and I just find them more comfortable. I only wear pants now when a skirt is too cold and I want to save on heating costs.

Hi Sharra, I'd prefer to wear pants, especially for work. It's easier to match with blouses and jackets - corporate wear During weekends, it's jeans - for comfort. Skirts are too feminine for me; I have to remember to sit properly, and not do unladylike stuff, like climbing up and down! The exception is parties and formal functions - then I'd turn out in skirts or dresses!

I used to wear trousers at work all the time until my bosses bought me a suit for a function that was a jacket and skirt, it was sort of like a uniform. They appeared to have a view about girls in skirts. Up until then I had been wearing trousers for years but getting back into skirts made me try them again and I discovered how much I liked them. I gave them up for years because they were too feminine. Now I like them because they are feminine. I agree that it depends on what you are doing. If you are climbing around things a lot then pants are better. I used to wear pants out as well but now I much prefer skirts.

I used to feel more confident in them but I have always preferred skirts. I went off skirts for years because I was breaking with so called feminine tradition. Now I wear them because I like them and enjoy wearing them and I know longer care what people think. I have learned to just do what is right for me.
