Could someone please tell me why the small pictures we use with our name etc are called avatars. Many thanks

AVATAR- is basically a HINDI language word which means one's image, one's personality, one's structure. Widely used in Network now

Computers. a graphical image that represents a person, as on the Internet. I got the definitions from www.dictionary.com

maybe it's changed anytime young want ,just like the god with supper power and shows we any features.
