My opinion I think groceries have become ridiculous. I went to the store and it was $5 for a 5lb bag of potatoes, almost $4 for a bag of cheese, $1 for a bell pepper, and $5 for a 12 pack of cokes. These are just a few examples. You really can't afford all the extras anymore, you have to plan meals and shop for them.
GAS on the other hand I don't understand, It shot up after hurricane katrina and hasn't seemed to do nothing but keep goin up.so what do you think about all of this??

Gas prices and groceries continue to climb with the latest gas spike since your original post. It's sad when items you'd find on special 10 for $10 (or $1 ea) are now $1.29+ a pkg. Rare to find anything under a dollar other than at the dollar store.

I'm sorry that I can't really respond to your question as I live in South Africa, but I can add that prices have shot up here as well. Groceries are ridiculously high, even neccesities like bread, flour, and milk. Petrol (gas) has more than doubled in the last 2 years and electricity had increased with 48% this year. So, my friend, don't feel alone, seems like we're all feeling the pinch.

We do a bit of extra planning. Our family uses more coupons now than we did before. At the very least the family budget gets more attention than it did previously. Which could develop into a better habit if things ease up any time soon. We are doing without a few of the extras. I don't know that anyone truly minds at this point.
