The clock on my laptop has changed time, and I can't change it back. Any ideas?

I don't know what happened to change it and it is the first time this has ever happened to me. I first noticed it a couple of days ago, and I tried to change it manually, but in the settings I am under Greenwich meantime which is the correct setting for me. I have tried changing it off to a different time zone and changing back again, removing my battery on the laptop, and crossing my fingers, but nothing is working.
Does any of you lovely people have any ideas as to what might have caused this to happen, so I can avoid this in future, and more importantly how I could get it right again. I used to rely on my clock whilst working or studying online and it is currently saying 2.15pm when it is actually 8.50pm.

I have the exact same problem...Quite frustrating really...For the longest time it would always be 3 hours slow compared to the normal time...I'd switch every other day to the real time, but it would never stick...Eventually, I had to re-format my computer (for other reasons) and I now still have the same problem, except now it's one hour slow opposed to 3 hours slow...I finally just gave up...There's other ways to find out what time it is, haha..

Hi
I agree it is frustrating. When I try to change it, it stays on the same time. I can't even get it to change temporarily. This was one clock I knew was always right, as I have my mobile set at 5 minutes fast, and due to a strange habit of mine, I have 2 alarm clocks both set at an hour fast. It always used to be half hour, but now it is an hour. Long story there though, but at least I knew that for a proper time check I could rely on my pc, up until now. I got quite a shock when I realised it was running all those hours slow.

Thanks and uh oh. That doesn't sound good to me. Is that the main battery in the laptop. Sorry for my ignorance here.
I do have other problems with my old faithful laptop, and another erratic thing is suddenly I will switch it on to no sound even though it is not muted. I switch it off again, and take the battery out, and replace it, and this always resets the sound. It hasn't worked for the time though. Would there be a connection here possibly?

Here's a possible diagnosis. If this is the first time that your time has changed then it is a possibility that this problem relates to your bios which in turn is related to your cmos battery inside your computer. The cmos battery helps retain simple memory like the time and date. It may be that your cmos battery is becoming weaker and may need to be replaced. There could be other factors though. It would be important to know what you had been doing and how often this problem occurred. Andrew
