We bought a Yorkie Saturday (he's a little over 8 weeks old). We are trying to Crate Train and teach him to go outside to "potty". Does anyone have any "tricks" to help me potty train a Yorkie? I've watched the videos and read the books. They don't really work well for me. He doesn't really care for treats so I can't really use those to praise him. I just do physical praise. Any ideas/ tricks?

Buy potty pads and put one on the floor in the house. Take the puppy to it every few minutes at first and let him sniff it and stuff and if he starts pottying somewhere in the house pick him up as soon as he starts and take him to the pad. eventually he will start to recognize that this is the place to go. once he recognizes the pad, start moving it towards the door like day by day a little each day or every other day. eventually move it to the outside of the house and take it away soon after. he will eventually begin to associate the outside with the potty. when you praise him say "good potty" so that when you take him out and say "go potty" he will know what to do. good luck!!

Thanks for the reply. I've got her to start "pottying" at the same spot when I take her out. And if I say let's go in, she heads to the door. Problem is she isn't letting me know when she needs to go she just goes when I think she needs to go. If I don't take her, she just uses the floor. Thank goodness for hardwood and bleach. :) I hope she gets better at it! If not I'll go crazy because she cost too much to just give away! I'm hoping for the best thanks for the good luch wishes.
