This little war wasn't exactly popular in Russia. Of course Putin has to blame somebody else, lol. Sorry, but this was all his little idea. That guy is on such a power trip. Just look at it, he couldn't even hand over the power when his regular term was up. No, no he had to create a new office in order to maintain tight reigns with a puppet in his previous position pretending to have the power but just doing what Putin wants.
After the fall of communism Russia was struggling. Now they are regaining economic power and with that comes the desire to rebuild the prior superpower status. The US had a foothold in Asia through Georgia's allegiance with the US. Georgia also has great resources, some of which Russia really would like to have. And aren't they a former province anyway? LOL. With the US being weakened by the poor economy and war in Iraq and Afghanistan, Iran is causing trouble... well, they can't really afford another war. So, the US will chose the diplomatic route and give Russia what Putin wants. Some territory and apparently a port in Georgia... for now. Plus recognition that Russia is back to its old Soviet era power. At least that is what Putin probably thought. I think it also irked him that Poland signed an agreement with the US to allow the installation of some defense systems. Too close to home, and Poland was a former ally.... Just have to rustle some sabers to make the point that the US is not in charge here.
What he didn't calculate is the fact that the US quickly changed strategy in Iraq. Hey, the Iraqis want us out anyway. Iran seems to be agreeable, we can pull out our troops. Now the US is working to round up cold war allies, plus new ones, just to show 'hey, not so fast, we are still a superpower, too. And if you think you can thumb your nose at us, well you can only go so far..'
Back to the cold war? Could be. Not as bad, Russia is not as big as the former Soviet Union, but could be. We never really got quite over it yet anyway. Is it timely. Is Putin's scapegoating justified? No. Nobody here wants another war, not even a cold one, not even against a former arch enemy. So which candidate stands to benefit? I have no idea. But unfortunately Putin is immensely popular in Russia and the Russians will believe him. He screwed up, this is his way out to dig in his heels in Georgia for a while, get what he wants, but not move any further. It wasn't his idea. Somebody in the US send the order. Somebody in the US pushed him over the edge, lol.
And no, it wasn't me. ROFL.

thank you for your in debt answer.
I really do not understand how the US can give Russia anything in Georgia. Georgia should be the boss in Georgia. I really do not understand how Russia can decide that parts of Georgia is now an independent state. Georgia should really be the boss in Georgia. Just imagine if Norway was to decide that Leningrad was an independent state, or that we decided to give Canada Michigan. I know. I am taking things a bit too far here. But my point is I wish people around the world would learn to get along and not make decisions for others all the time. It cannot be good? It never works well if my man decides things over my things without my consent. Not the other way around either really.
Thanks again for a geat response.
have a good night

Who the heck nows what started it? I think the US just needs to back on out of there all together, and let them figure it out for themselves. I've been listening to it all on the BBC World service, but as yet I haven't heard you you just said. I will have to listen again tonight, and see what they have to say about the whole thing. What is going to happen next. I wonder?
...and no it wasn't me, because I am in CANADA!

And now everyone starts reviewing their agreements conserning weapons and such
Do they think it is a game I wonder.
Right now I am watching a danish woman saying she does not think there will be a new cold war, but thi is a sign of the new east west conflict
Hope they manage to stop themselves right now
