Well, the Simpsons is one of the most popular shows out there. Otherwise they would be not showing this show all of the time on Fox, and be such a Big seller of their videos all over as well. I personally have been watching since the beginning, and I look forward to seeing the New ones as I can. The show for me, is not as bad as some of the other Family Cartoon type shows out there.
If I had kids, I might be a little more selective as some of the speech is getting a little worse over time, but it would depend a little I am sure as well.

I think it's up to the parents of the child if they let them watch the programme or not.
I watched an episode last night where they were making fun of Catholics, and I found that a little bit dodgy even though I am not one myself.
And then the way lisa is a buddhist for no apparent reason could make a child feel that they can just pick any faith that they want at random and think nothing about it.
I do love it though, and I know that I am old enough by now (haha) not to get influenced by it, although I do admit that it could be a bad influence on young children.

Well, I don't find them un-appropriate.
It's a good show, though. Very well written for starters and touching day to day issues in a very humorous and intelligent way. Sure it's controversial, that's the idea. Sure it presents things in from an exaggerated perspective. But that's why it's so good and successful.
As for influencing... I think that it might possibly made you think about Buddhism and being a vegetarian. But if you weren't inclined to it, it would turn you in either one.
Ever since the simpsons came out at the beginning there was always this big thing that it wasn't good for kids... I don't see then as any worse as the older cartoons that we used to watch as kids. It's up to us as parents to make sure we monitor what our kids watch and what we allow them to watch of course, and everyone will see things differently. Personally I have seen kids shows much more un-appropriate than the simplsons and they are targeted just for kids.

I enjoy it.
I've watched it since I was 10, and I don't think there are any words too strong for a 10 year old to hear.
and at it's heart is a really strong family unit. they have problems, fall out, face difficulties, and they get through it because they care about each other.
the occasional cheeky word isn't so bad.

The simpsons show is not so controversial unlike in south park and family guy , the show focus on satire based on everyday lives of human. Its really up to you if you follow them or not. The characters are only fiction, and just like in video game- it's only a game. I once a vegetarian, an ovo vegetarian but I quit because of temptations of other foods

I think the Simpsons are amazing.
As for your influence on becoming Buddist
psychologically if you were that obsessed with the
Simpsons then yes it may have swayed you into changing
you diet and your religion... but why haven't you
learned how to play the sax or started wearing cute little
orange dresses and pearl necklaces?!?As for the actual appropriateness question...
1) I can't believe I'm answering a question I find so ridiculous...
2) The ratings on TV can be changes now-a-days so if an
adult has a problem with their child viewing it, they can just block it.
3) The language is not so bad -- look at south park -- could be a lot worse!

lol, i know but, have you considered that homer lllllooooovvvvveeeeesssss (loves) to get drunk, and thats how he resolves his problems? it influences the people to dink, sends a message: drinking help you "heal you're wounds" (if you're sad, to drnk)

No, it is not appropriate, nor do they wish it to be. It's humorous, and that is the intent of any show like the simpsons or even south park. They just want to poke fun at everything. If they were appropriate they couldn't get away with those things nor would they have survived as long as they have

i thinks its a good show, it has alot of everyday issues that we all have to deal with & thy make it comedy so thet we can enjoy how the resolution comes about i do hink every now & then in an episode there can be things that are inaproporiate but i think its up to the parent to decided if they are going to let their childern watch these type of TV shows

Appropriate not really...
The series is hilarious though and makes a mockery of almost anything and everything. And Homer is absolutely one of the most awesome characters ever created.
Like someone mentioned it is upto the parents to decide whether their kids could or could not be influenced in a negative manner. Or even in a positive manner which might have been the case with you.;)

I don't know the statistics but I would think there are just as many or more "adult kids" watching The Simpsons. If you don't like intelligent humor and can't take a joke then the show is not for you.
Just like the shows we watched when we were younger a lot of the cartoons had the same type of humor but as kids we didn't get the subtlety. I think adults react to things they know and we've gone overboard in trying to protect them, kids live by actual real-life example. Just my opinion.

I believe that the Simpsons are appropriate for adult viewing but as for kids I dont believe so. I have a 3 year old nephew who picks up everything that he hears. I know I wouldnt want my kids to watch it, but everyone is different.

The bad words in simpsons are much better than others.
Friends, for example, which was so popular all over the world, contained lots of bad words. However, it is funny!
By the way, the simposns is apropriate!
U say there is some negative effects.
I didn't pay close attention. Thus, I didn't find it. So, the negative thing is few. It is not a big deal. Like growing pains, we learn a lesson in each episode.
Have a nice day!
