Say What You Will About Sen. McCain, but This Was Classy.

"Senator Obama, this is truly a good day for America. Too often the achievements of our opponents go unnoticed. So I wanted to stop and say, congratulations. How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day. Tomorrow, we'll be back at it. But tonight Senator, job well done." I'm still not sold on McCain, but I have to say, this was a great gesture on his part. I agree, I don't like Obama much, but today was his day, he secured it, he deserves it, and I echo McCain, Congratulations Obama!

I agree. I'm not a fan of McCain's, but I gotta give him brownie points for this. It's not often you see someone in politics be such a good sport, especially knowing how hard they've been going after said person they're competing against for the spotlight. It IS historic, it is awesome..even though we may not all agree with Obama, or support him -- he's worked to get there, and I'm happy he got the nomination.

Not as historic as they led you to believe though. The first Black American to be nominated for President wasn't Barack Obama. Cynthia McKinney beat Obama by over a weak when she accepted the Green Party's nomination.

I know that, dearie. It's a complete deal to me: McKinney first black lady to run and get nominated; Obama first black guy to nominated. *thumbs up*

Yeh, it was a pretty decent gesture. Sadly though, and I hate to be the parade rainer onner, but you'll soon see people chiding him for it in one way or another. probably right in here too. *shrug* oh well. you know the drill.

Hey fellow paratrooper Parated2k- Well said. What Senator McCain and his campaign did was classy. This is what the Republican Party is all about. You see, I am a convert in more ways than one. I am convert from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party. This did not start with the Bush Family but with the Reagan era. Anyway, the speech that Barack Obama gave last night was classy in itself. Yet, as many commentators responded and I agree with them, that it was no more than a normal Democratic response to what has happened over the past 8 years. I have concerns about Barack Obama and his run for the presidency and it has nothing at all to do with his race or his beliefs. I am concerned for those who are wanting to turn this entire country into a major race war. Not that I am seeing this in the politic rhetoric, but I think that there is still a large contigent of White Extremists in this country that are laying low and ready to more or less rear their ugly heads. I wish both candidates well in this very, very historic campaign for the presidency of the greatest country in the world and let's hope that we become the talk of the world once again. Have a great weekend and a great Labor Day!

I agree. I commend McCain for his congratulatory message. It was one ALL sides should make use of more often (Hillary - are you listening???) I still won't vote for him, but I do like that he did that.

True, it was cool but nothing to base a vote on. ;~D

I am a GREEN. I vote for Green Party candidates, but I listen to all the candidates when I can and last night Obama was very inspirational. I would consider voting for him based on his ability to move people with his words. I think we need leadership in our country to get us out of this funk. Perhaps Obama has that quality.

As a member of the Green Party, what do you think about the press (and the RNC and DNC) refusing to acknowledge Cynthia McKinney as the first Black Woman nominated for president?

I'll admit it was a good touch too. I think his staff have done a great job at runnign this campaign. I will be supporting Obama, but I do have to give credit when it is due. McCain knows exactly what he is doing. http://sumpter-masterplan.blogspot.com

It was outstanding for him to say. That's the McCain that I remember. I really hope he is here to stay.
