Everytime i pass by a beggar or street children asking for some money, I usually give some coins. My heart really melts everytime they would approach me.. If only i can give more .. My father also has his own way of giving..He would rather buy food and give it to them so that he is sure that the money goes to their stomachs and not to gambling.. How about you??

In Manila and here in Davao, people are discouraged to give alms to beggars, especially the street urchins as they are called. NGO's, and the DSWD have programs for these people. They are given chances to have better lives. Some of them are hard headed, they go back to the streets to beg. Sometimes, mothers carry their filthy babies so motorists and pedestrians will pity them more. They are being kept out of the streets as accidents have been happening with these children when they ran after cars to beg.
Here in Davao, these people are apprehended by law. The more you give them, the more they will beg.

This might come across as harsh but i dont really like giving alms to beggars who are perfectly fit and who can work and earn. There are beggars who have made beggig a life style and are not intrested in working even if you offer work to them. I only give alms to people who i see are diabled and cant afford to work. i think your father has a very nice way of giving alms in ways of feedng them. my mom also has the same kind of way to help the needy.

I have never even seen a beggar or street children, so i've never had to make that choice.
If the beggar wasn't sitting there with an empty bottle of booze in his hand sure. I have sort of a sympathy for the homeless and beggars, some want to make life better but it's really hard to do when you have nothing.
