Does Ad-blockers make your net browsing speed low???

I have installed a ad-blocker add-on in my firefox. But one of my friend told it decreases the net performance. Is it true? Please help me out.

no dear it dont decrease your net speed but this addon works to search popup scripts hidden in source of index page so forget it and if you think its not helping you having problem with this addon then try disabling it and try using if something changes than might be the addon is not well designed.
