I want to be a graphics artist!

Although i'm a new graduate of computer engineering. I really want to be a graphics artist, or web designer or just anything that involves art + computers. The opportunities are here but i feel that i'm not so ready yet. Can the mylot artists give me some tips? What particular software/s should i focus to? What are the things i have to prepare to start a freelancing career as a graphics artist? My heart is really in it. Please share your knowledge. Thanks.

I want to say to you, don't give up!
I have a 23 year old daughter who is also a graphic and web designer.
She has a beautiful page and a website online. Her page is on Myspace.com.

i'm an IT graduate too & i love doing anything about computer. i used to make a web page when i'm still studying, we used dreamweaver & swish (macromedia) as our software in making web page. & i also designed my friendster page using photoshop & dreamweaver. but sad to say i'm not updated on the new softwares now, that's why i can't make my own page. by the way, what are the new softwares about designing?

Thanks. I've been blogging for almost four years. And i have learned to make my own layouts in blogger and wordpress. I have stopped though because of school and now i'm back into it. Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are good ones.
