I have been depressed for over 4 months now and I am just coming out of it now, but i cannot make myself happy.
I need to know a way i can be happy everyday. I listen to music alot and try listening to happy songs to cheer myself up
I am a happy person but I don't feel it inside and i want to be able to feel happy and forget about all the bad things that are making me depressed.
Has anybody else been in my position?

i think there are those people who have more reasons to be depressed and to sulk, but they just live their lives as if they have no problems, and they are the easiest to forget that they have been through one hell of a ride...
i have had my shares too.. i guess i got out of the bad situation and now we are doing well. just think positive.

Hari!
I don't know if you believe in God but I do. The real happiness derives from God. His love is what you can feel in your heart if you call Him. You can call Him every day by chanting or by listening to His Holy Names. If you do like listening to music then you should buy a CD of Hare Krishna songs. That really makes your heart happy and fulfills your heart with real positive feelings.
Just try it. The Hare Kirshna Mahá Mantra is the only way of beeing happy in this age. Mantra means what frees your mind. It is the best medicine against depression.
This material life in this material world is not so important as our spiritual life. We are the spiritual soul. We are indipendent from this world. But now we are closed into this material body. That is our main problem. We give food to our body, but we don't give food to our soul. The real food for our soul is this Mantra:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Ráma Hare Ráma
Ráma Ráma Hare Hare
Just try it and be happy!
Gouranga! (means be happy!)

If you've been depressed for over 4 months, I think the first step is to take spalladino's advice and see a doctor. To be sad over bad things that are happening is normal, but depression is a different thing and you may need some professional help.
Also yoga realigns your body from the inside out (my inept description)and can help balance hormones and energy flow which can result in an improvement in your mental outlook.
If you can find something to volunteer at, a nursing home, food pantry, soup kitchen, just one day a week, it might help because you can feel good about helping someone else. It helps you focus outside your own problems.
I hope you find the answer you're looking for. I only have mild depression and it only lasts a few hours or a day and then it's gone, but it's a miserable feeling.

My husband has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with Depression...he is a Viet Nam vet so he has a lot of issues. He tried for over 20 years to deal with his depression on his own and finally resorted to medication which has made a big difference in the quality of his life. Sometimes hormonal or chemical disorders can cause depression so, if you haven't already seen a doctor, you might want to try that.

Yes, I've been in your position. I think for about a year, but it may have been longer, I don't know. I suffered from mood swings, one minute I would feel I'm the luckiest person on earth and the very next minute I could feel down in the dumps. What brought me out is doing things that raised my self esteem, be it cooking a nice dish, cleaning some of the mess in my home that I've been meaning to for sometime, dressing up... just for the sake of it, or going out for a while to a park or mall. If you haven't dressed up in a while, do it... or just take a warm luxurious shower with a pampering essential oil. Do something for yourself or someone you love. Actually the latter works better for me. all the best.
